Both ours are on their 5th year, still look/work like new! We did go and get some fancy ones when we bought this house... I think the hinges are what save the life of these seats... They are a cusioned hinge... so if you "drop" the toilet seat or lid it slowly settles down, doesnt slam! Great for those 2am pissers and you don't wanna wake the family and the seat falls out of your hand. They didn't cost that much (maybe $25-35ea) but well worth it... No MDF or shitty wood (pun intended!) they are a composite... got em at like Lowes or Home Depot... |

Make some thick brass hinges and a 2" thick hardwood rim. I bet you could do it.

Ours is really very nice, has lasted a long time but i got home earlier and the hinge was snapped in half. It made for an interesting piss having to hold the seat up with one knee .The lid was made of some type of marble or granite looking stuff.

| Re: Life span of a toilet seat? fawking nooooobs. Maybe this dude has a warped sense of humor and thought this would be funny? Who the fawk knows anymore. Just for the record, I never worn out a shitter seat. I don't think it's possible. I broken a few with me fat arse snapping off the mounting studs, but I've never 'worn' one out. |

Pretty sure it's a female thing. Four in the house here and we go through a couple a year.
