Probably not. Today I finished the luggage shelf: And the underside: Sunroof track Interior has been primed and will get the same blue as the dash. Hard to see, but I finished off the area behind the rear quarter windows with sheets of .005 styrene to give them the proper curve. | |

Today's progress: Luggage compartment Engine bay and hood hinges Interior painted, with a little better shot at the rear quarter windows Carbs from the T-Bucket kit (Stromberg 97's) with some homemade air cleaners. My Kubelwagen arrived today, so I can get a start on the chassis. |

You're gonna have to outbid Baller, and he's offering his wife. Update! Assembled the front suspension to the pan. Determined that the pan is about 7/8 too long, so I chopped it down. THe seam should be under the seats so it won't be too noticeable. I hope. Made some filler strips and test-fitted the body to the pan. Oh yeah! Started on the engine. I think this has more parts than the real thing. I used hi-temp header paint with a nice flat aluminum finish. Change of plans up front. The Roady tires fit the wheels perfectly, but they look kinda big. Which isn't terrible on a Baja, but I wanted something more Vee-dubby. So I cut down some old Monogram tires. |

| Re: Stu's Super Spectacular Static Scorcher! Painted the body a slightly darker blue. Obviously a cheapo re-spray, since the door jambs are still the original color. More work on the engine. I was going to use both carbs, but since it's a single-port engine, one is enough. I replaced the kit distributor cap with a homemade one. Test fit in the chassis. I had to do some serious hacking to make it fit this tightly; originally there was an inch between the firewall and the fan shroud, and the engine cover hit the generator. So I took half an inch out of the transmission and the rear fork. Now the axle shafts won't line up, but they're not as visible as the engine. Cut the tail light lenses out and turned them around so I can use the clear ones included in the body set. Two Firestones and one Maypop. |

Sneak preview time: Got the engine mounted and corrected the exhaust. Now all the tubes are equal length, or close to it. Also cut down some valve covers left over from the T-bucket. Can't mount the rear wheels until I make some adapter plates (where's my EMPI catalog?) Got some simulated gelcoat (gloss white) on the fiberglass parts and cleaned up the overspray. I can't do a whole lot more until the paint cures fully. But I need to show the 1:1 ride some love today so I guess that's OK. |

In spite of the 1:1 maintenance, I made some progress yesterday: Rear shock brackets, shocks and front engine tin (none of which are included in the kit). You can also see the valve covers I cut down. Engine cover (seems a shame, really) and mismatched taillights. License frame is a cut-down Lindberg part. Rusted up the headers with PolyScale Rust (look for it in the train section, this is the best rust paint I've ever used). And it opens up so you can see the Colt 45 can on the coil. |

Big day today, the body gets assembled to the chassis! Also, glass cut and installed. Front lights and license plate Skull shift knob from the Lindberg T. I didn't use it on the T because the gold plating is uneven, but it looks worn enough to work here. I drilled into the base of the skull so the shifter would fit more securely (how often do you hear someone who's not a doctor or a serial killer talk about drilling skulls?) Also, you can see the hillbilly plywood seat mounts. Sunroof crank and rearview mirror Rear wheels with adapter plates visible. |
