I always thought his message was good.

Why are his speeches protected by copyright?

Copyright Information | MLK Online
I Have A Dream Speech - Martin Luther King Speeches

$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$

I Have a Copyright: The Problem With MLK's Speech | Mother Jones

Why did WE pay $800,000 for the rights to build him a 120 Million dollar memorial???
King family draws fees from DC memorial project - USATODAY.com

$$$$$$

The message was lost years ago when the cash cow died.

White privilege. Yet another excuse shoving blame onto someone else. Sweet.

Is it trolling if rhe poster believes what he posts?

Yeah. Do we need to define "trolling" again?

when its nothing more than an inflammitory subject line thats strictly meant to get people to respond, so you can then come in with some bullshit angle like james earl ray did good because he immortalized mlk?

yeah, thats not a troll.

what wouldnt have been a troll would be an honest and respectful discussion on it. e.g. "would MLK be as powerful a public figure had he not been assassinated?"

Apparently so. Trolls say the most outrageous shit in an effort to stir the pot and illicit negative responses.

Some people understand what I'm saying and some get offended. Oh well.

No he wouldn't have. His death solidified the civil rights movement for a time.

True, but look at the culture the media focuses on. Nobody celebrates those that achieved equality by working hard, being accountable, earning what they have, and inspiring others around them to do the same. Instead we get clips of angry people who have it pounded in their heads that their battle is always without and not within. The people in the former group who should be looked up to only get mentioned in little blips and blurbs on public tv and radio and other places that don't reach those that really need to see it.

I'm not even going to pretend that I have a sliver of a clue as to what it is like being black. But IMO that really doesn't matter when you see people turn and wreck their own cities again and again and again every time they think they have a justifiable reason. There is something seriously broken there, and in that way WT is right. Those particular people only know how to bring others down.

MLK turns in his grave every time one of those fawkers makes a buck with his name.

No motive, as I said earlier I always post the same thing on January 19th. Most of the time n9 one catches it and it goes away.

You are way better with words than myself and you conveyed my thoughts perfectly.

It would help if you didn't generalize your statements so badly. Its pretty easy to read through your posts quickly, miss the irony, and go the wrong way with them. As touchy and as controversial as this subject is, clarity and context is important.

True but I've always been a terrible writer. I've gone back and read posts in old threads I'd forgotten about and not been able to decipher just wtf I was saying.

Then I would suggest going wide around these subjects. We let a lot of things slide here, but not racism. You may not be racist, but your words certainly could have (and have been) seen as such.

Racial does not equal racist. Too many people confuse the two.

Well I wasn't going to go so far as eloquent but he is certainly more of a wordsmith than myself.

He speaks in generalizations because he thinks in generalizations.
I used to be like that.

there is no generalizing this. the subject line reads what it does, with a exclamation point.

saying happy mlk killer day on the day people celebrate the life of mlk aint cool.

dont gimme no intelligent witty reasoning about the post actually being about the exploitation of MLK and all that. whatever... i get it. coulda been done smarter if a smarter reaction was wanted.
