Newbe question: Hi everyone, do you need to bind a receiver to a transmitter before you can set it up?

The replacment i found on ebay and it came from a Honco , i do not know if it was a Honco kit or RTR. Before i ruined my original receiver when i turned the transmitter on i would at least get tire movement now nothing. I have a wraith but they all use the same transmitter and receiver.
