In my experience it's not something I've ever had to do whilst out there. And even in the man cave with proper work space and tools it still takes me a while to do it - wheel(s) off/on, link(s) off/on, setting the mesh right, waiting for the thread lock to cure...

Plus every connector equals electrical loses and a potential connectivity issue, as well as additional weight for the current extra light weight rig trend.

60/40 solder FTW IMO too.

But hey what do I know?

After torching a brand new HH motor on my first pack & having no ability to swap (cause I hard wired the motor.) I sat and watched my friends crawl for 2 more packs.

2 motor screws & a plug & voila! motor in hand.
Easy motor removal also helped when dialing in the pinion / spur ratio.
Brushed motors need regular maintenance, the easier it is for me to get the motor out, the easier it is for me to check the comm & brushes, clean & lube the bearings (therefore I do it more than if its a PITA.)
I don't understand why anyone would bury a brushed motor that needs to be pulled maintained regularly (but I am poor & old school so I maintain as much as possible & buy as little as possible.) I guess if I could afford to buy a new motor when the old one craps (from never maintaining it) This would be moot.

Deans are very efficient connectors & after 20+ years they have never once been the cause of issues in my rigs.

We all have different needs & experiences & we are all right.
I like how the OP's question was "can I use a traxxas connector for the motor?"& it has become a debate over whether motor connectors are a good or bad plan.
For me a modular easy to work on rig is the only way to go.
