Default I want to add a gyro to my trail runner help

can any one give me any information on a simple gyro system , components needed and how to hook up a gyro on my off road trail runner. I need a very simple basic setup that I can use on a heavy 1/10 off road or if it will fit a 1/8 scale off road trail runner .
THANKS

You plan on drifting your trail truck on rocky trails?

Sorry, I have no tech help, but curious as to reason, as well. Could be interesting!

Hey monkey, pardon my ignorance, but what will this voodoo magic gyro device do for your trailrunner? Is this the same type thing that's in choppers?

Thanks for the replies
no I don't plan on drifting the trails (that is funny) but with the extra power and torque that I have I would like to turn up the dial just a bit.
I just want to see if I can give it a bit more stabilization at the unexpected higher speed that is now available.
the gyros can be found In helicopter and rc cars on and off road and if it will add to the stability that I am looking for then I will be happy, as far as I can tell there is no voodoo or magic involved but if the gyro works voodoo magic is what I am going to call it FRANKENSTIEN VOODOO MAGIC

Mount it flat, parallel with the ground, and hook it up between your steering servo and receiver. Thats all there is to it.

Thanks I just need a little more stability if I decide to run a little faster on the trails that have ruts

A gyro is not gonna help you. Learn to drive it. If you feel that it gets too twitchy at high speed, start adding expo to your steering. Heli's need a gyro, cars/trucks don't. I wouldn't even put a gyro in my drift car.

Your radio should have expo adjustability. Expo softens the sensitivity around the neutral point. Like when I race, my nerves make me move the wheel too fast so I add a bunch of expo and it smooths out the steering. What radio are you using?

Ok. I doubt that radio has adjustable expo.

This brings back some memories from a time a while ago back when we were all still building bigger trucks, like just around the time of the 2.2 invasion. We were dabbling with forced articulation suspensions. I did one that had a link tying the front axle's left side with the rear axle's left side. No up or down travel, just articulation. One went up, it forced the other one down. Then this dude named Kamikaze shows off his cool forced articulation truck that had a 1/4 scale servo (I think) with its servo horn used to locate the rear upper shocks. With an additional channel he could activate the servo and push down or pull up on the shock, forcing one side down or up.

Reason for the story; next step was let's put a gyro on this thing and it will make on the fly adjustments to that 1/4 scale servo and keep the truck upright on off camber situations, or whenever. Pretty smart. Don't think it ever happen as shortly thereafter the comp rules changed to more or less, you can't do that.

I'm gonna go dig around a little to see if I can find it.

I don't understand the need or want to have a gyro on the steering of a trail truck though. These things are such sloppy plastic pieces driving around on way imperfect surfaces that it's not like super small adjustments are really going to change anything.

I up graded my max stone 10 with a high performance esc motor combo from RC4WD and now it has way more torque and speed that I expected so I was wanting to try the gyro to give it more stability in those few times that I would like to open the throttle on a trail that has ruts,
now that all the sloppy plastic pieces are sloppy aluminum pieces

Doesn't hurt to try it.

I actually found Kami's truck, if anyone is interested: New 2.2 build

Vids don't work but there it is. Funny reading material.

I'm a bit confused here...
Are we talking a heavy flywheel that use its mechanical properties to keep the vehicle stable, or an electronic device that influence the suspension to virtually acheive the same thing?

To me it would be suitable to use the electronic type to stabilize a camera mount on the truck. Stabilizing the entire truck seems just too much.
