Thumbs down axial Ae-5's catching on fire often?

A couple buddies and I decided to buy new deadbolts and all 3 of our Axial AE-5's and smoked out and caught on fire within 3 months.... any known issues with these escs?

Yes they are rebranded hobbywing. That is strange.

Cheers,

Hobbywing brushless esc burst in to flames on me... truck was sitting still, then on fire. The capacitors at the front looked to be the cause.

Not exactly the same esc, but the brushless one that looks just like the ae5.

lol it's been kinda entertaining watching those ae-5's crap out.
All three were similar setups
3s, very conservative gearing( like 5:1 on spur and pinion) all had castle bec's with red wire removed on esc, 1.9's

They all crapped out when they were driving on flat ground, not bound up or any real load to speak of. I was a huge fan of the ae-5 until now. Lol

The HTU I work at has sold a bunch of Axials with those and a few Ascenders with the Dynamite with a similar ESC, haven't had any come back that I know of.

2 from the Hobbytown I work at have been crap and 2 from tower. 3 were on scx' sand one on a customers wraith spawn. I called axial and they said they were back ordered when I got a warranty for the customer. Also stated that it wasn't the first she had heard of, so I'm guessing it's a somewhat known issue. Idk tho.

How did you remove the body clips with flames coming from that esc?

Maybe they had a bad batch of esc's, it happens sometimes even to bigger companies like castle. Castle was admitting they had a bad batch of mamba monster esc that come stock on the Erevo brushless a couple years ago, they were catching on fire as well

I remember something like that prior the MMM being in the trucks, apparently the suppliers of the electrical components had outright lied about what they could handle and if you got it to handle 4s-5s, you were lucky while 6s typically resulted in a big fire.

Could something have possibly shorted out from driving it under water? Did you add any waterproofing? How old is the ESC?

mine was the only one that was really sumerged but it said the esc was waterproof so i had to test it lol all of the esc's were around 3 months old or less all caught fire pretty much the same way, trailing with no real load to speak of

You said the other two got near water too, maybe that's the reason? Waterproof doesn't mean waterproof?
