| 3s Lipo run time compared to 2s
I was wondering is there any difference in run time between 2s and 3s? Say you have a 2s 5000mah vs. 3s 5000mah. Will the 3s have longer run time or the same?

50% longer run time if driving style remains the same and gearing is adjusted to keep the wheel speed the same.

Yep. More watt-hours of the 3s pack is more energy to give. But most people use the extra power on tap, and might not gear down enough to offset the rpm increase. Cause who doesn't like a little extra wheelspeed? So your runtime will increase if you gear down enough, but your driving will determine how much runtime gain.

Thanks everyone. I am used to my 2s 5000mah run times its descent enough for now. If I do not change gearing and I go to say a 3s 3000mah would I gain a little speed and keep about the same run time?

You would probably get less runtime unless you didn't use all that wheelspeed. Even with a 3s 5000mah pack you might get less runtime. Totally depends on your driving.

I see I think it would be nice to have a little extra speed my truck can't even burn out in loose gravel. LOL Its fun crawling though and I don't want to ruin that aspect of it just have some burn outs now and then like a real truck can do. Not even sure a battery can help that till I try it. I was told it was a 55t motor I think its rcwd crawler model. I can't see anywhere on it that says that my neighbor is actually into RC's and told me after looking at it.

Switch to a 35t.

| Re: 3s Lipo run time compared to 2s You know I was just thinking of switching motors instead of battery. I like my battery its bought and paid for. Plus the money on a 3s could go towards a descent motor. Not that mines bad but something that might be more suitable for me. I was looking at this. CRAWLMASTER EXPERT 540 Not sure that will run on 2s and if it will work with my Ae5. The Ae5 says it will go down to 12t on 2s. I don't know if it would drop right in place in my honcho or not either. I just watched a video on swapping out motors didn't look to hard. I bought mine RTR used so I am learning all the ins and outs now. I just did my first surgery on it today. Put in a high torque( Hitec HS-645MG) steering servo with a metal servo horn. |

Drop in a 3s with a 35 turn integy, holmes silver can or whatever you find cheap and then drop your gearing way down to say 12/87. You'll thank me later. Oh and a 645 hasn't been considered a high torque servo since 1996. |

That futaba was barely enough to turn the tires on my gold pan rc10 I bet it was awesome on a 4x4. |

CrawlMaster Expert would be a dandy start. It is about like a 27t motor in speed.

| Re: 3s Lipo run time compared to 2s Could that drop right in with my 2s battery and ae5 setup? Still crawl and maybe do some burn outs. LOL That's all I want burn outs now and then I love the crawling part and torque.

| Re: 3s Lipo run time compared to 2s Good to know. I kind of feel like the turning is a little slow on this. But it seems better than the last servo which was slow and weak.

The 645 is for sure better than what you had and it isn't very expensive. As you fall down the rabbit hole that is rc crawling you'll start to find bigger, stronger and certainly more expensive parts for your rig. I don't generally skimp on electronics since they are a forever or until it fries item where the rig can be pedaled sans electronics.

Volt up, gear down. Dropping the gearing down then adding voltage to spin the motor faster will produce far more torque and top speed will increase. If you're looking to crawl and still be able to do burnouts this is a cost effective method. My crawler runs a 35 turn brood axle buster, 12/87 gearing, UD rear gears and HD front on 4s. It's not fast, not by any stretch of the imagination. But it has ridiculous torque and it goes from stopped to top speed in less than 12" so I have all the wheel speed needed and more to make an obstacle. Brushless is a big can of worms. I am a huge fan of it but no matter how refined the brushless setup is a simple brushed setup is just better for some things and crazy low speed control is at the top of that list. |

If I change the spur gear do I need to change the idler gear too? Last edited by Flim Flam; 07-04-2016 at 02:39 AM. | |
