Horizon already has a LOT of robust parts at their disposal. I wouldn't be surprised if they utilized a 3 gear transmission from one of their Losi vehicles (the 22S trans looks like a prime option), or the existing AX10 trans just with the better plastics & metal gears. As for an open diff, there's always the Baja Rey rear axle, which already has a gear diff option. It wouldn't be that hard to make a front axle to use the same parts. Or, they could do like Redcat did with the solid axle in the Camo X4 and utilize a standard gear diff with outdrives, and then solid axles with dogbones. It opens up the option reusing a lot of existing parts, although I hate the idea of hiding outdrives inside of a solid axle when they already have the Rock/Baja Rey gear diff out there.

Maybe a previous design from Axial that never made production.

Ooh a Capra ratio trans would be nice but it seems less reliable than the three gear would be.

Good points! I don't see them redesigning an entirely new tube chassis, but they do have a ton of parts at their disposal. There's no reason they have to be Axial parts.

Looks like the same upper and lower link design. Sway bars look the same also. Axle unfortunately looks like an AR60...

I guess ill start checking Tower and Horizon every day to see which one accidentally spoils it first .

So here's an interesting thought. This last teaser didn't show tires/wheels. Could we be getting a Raw Builder's Kit SMT10?

That would be sweet. I would think theyd have aluminum links, but maybe it is is and they left those plates out? Who knows, not as excited as i was but we'll see

If this is the new SMT10'the best part is missing - the tube chassis.

the biggest problem with the ar60 axles was the plastic they were made out of they hold up fine if you use metal axles and thrust bearings or the big bearing mod ive been running big power through my axles on a heavy 12lb 1/6 scale truck with out issues
they make aluminum diff housings too so you can upgrade that also

Probably just a kit version. It wasn’t a big seller hence why it was disco’d. Don’t get your hopes up for big changes. Best we can hope for is material upgrades.

I'll be happy with a kit version in new plastics. I think it's unreasonable to expect an entirely new design that's full of metal upgrades at or near the same price as the old one. I think it's more reasonable to expect evolutionary changes like the newer plastics, and maybe metal trans gears. Give me that in a kit with the better AR60 parts that came in the Bomber kit, and price it right, and I'll buy it.

While the original SMT10 had many flaws, I think expiring licensing and Hobbico's financial death spiral had more to do with it getting discontinued. Pretty sure Rich from Horizon specifically mentioned the SMT licensing issue either here or on FB before.

Also, SA monster truck racing seems to be a lot more popular now than it was a few years ago.

I heard a rumor that Horizon got the Monster Jam license back, but I can't find anything to backup that claim.

I think the SMT10 would have been a better seller if it wasn't garbage out of the box.

Nothing irritated me more with that release than having to pay a premium for a licensed body and licensed tires that I didn't want. The fact that it did like 8mph out the box was garbage as well.
