Cool thanks. I'll do some research. My portasol just had some little +/- like you'd see on one of those stick lighters. Looks like yours goes up to 850F. I was trying to check the range on the Hakko and was getting confused. Took me a minute to figure out it sets in Celsius. Anyway, sort of excited to have a nice iron. Do you guys use flux? I never do. I just use rosin core solder and it seems to work fine without flux. |

We use the trak power station at hobby town. It's on full heat 7 days a week at least 8 hours a day and it works great. It's pretty much a re labeled hakko we sell them for 90$ the new models have a digital screen

I've been wanting my own welder for a while now and I finally pulled the trigger today. Don't get me wrong, A lifetime of using someone else's welder has been great but, I wanted to move towards checking a few things off of my list of things to do this year. A few of which are learn a new skill, make & sell a product and do more side jobs. I've only held a TIG torch a few times and I have much room for improvement but, like many things I have been self-taught so, I should be able to hone my skills over time and end up with a new one that could potentially benefit me and others in the future. I went with a Miller Diversion 180. It's a AC/DC Tig Welder. It'll do Steel/Stainless/Chromoly and Aluminum light to medium jobs. It'll run off standard 115v & 230v power and the unit only weighs 50lbs so I can take it anywhere. It's a great entry level TIG machine for hobbyists, garage & shop use and general purpose. It's a capable little machine. The shop I got it from has a promotion going on that if I buy the machine and $250 worth of other Miller gear, I'll get a $250 rebate check from Miller. So, I picked up a nice Helmet/Hood and I upgraded to the fingertip control in addition to the foot pedal it comes with. I mean hey, its practically free. I also picked up some other essentials as well. I'm excited to have this coming. I don't make a lot of money so, I had to really think about this for a while. I think it will be a good investment in the long run both financially and knowledge gain. I have a few projects I have in mind so, we'll see how it goes. Wish me luck! |

I was using my dad's the other day. He's planning to get that as well. We were using it without the gas. Does it make a big difference?
