I'd love to see you building chassis man... I'm still in for that old truggy we talked about. Put me down for 1. |

Pretty cool idea here for someone to try. Saw this on instagram. Rebel Offroad has done the top links toward the rear. They called it reverse triangulation. |

It seems like they'd fight each other, the lower links arching toward the center and the upper arching toward the rear. I guess they wouldn't...they'd rotate the axle with movement up or down. Like the top would rotate forward and the bottom toward the rear. Maybe it doesn't rotate enough to matter, or maybe it keeps the axle pointed toward the t-case? Seems odd.

My soldering iron went kaput...I think I remember you guys talking about a fairly affordable one that performs well. Anyone remember that? Who made that station?

Oh I found it, hobby king makes a knock off of the hakko 936 and it's like $20. I'll probably spend the money on the nice one. I don't like to go cheap on tools. IIRC Rick picked up one of the hobby king ones though. |

Yeah, I got the cheapy.. Its been holding up so far. Sometimes it seems like the heat is mostly concentrated on one area of the tip instead of the whole tip so I get annoyed when I have to clock the iron in my hand to find the hot spot but, $20 some odd dollars. Meh

I ordered the Hakko FX-888D and a couple extra tips. All the Wellers I've seen were sort of cheap. My big pistol style soldering iron in the garage is a Weller. It's definitely a low end iron but I don't use it much and it seems to work okay for quick wire connections. That's all I ever solder outside...like power wires for the CB. I had that Portasol butane iron. I liked it a lot because it was wireless...I went to fill it yesterday and the fill nozzle broke releasing all of the butane. My only real complaint with it was that it took too long to heat up. The fumes it put off would also make your eyes water sometimes, LOL. It wasn't cheap either. |

My portasol had the sponge but I've never had that mess of wires thing...I always figured they were interchangeable. I would just shake the tip off in the garbage. I guess I need to go back and watch some soldering videos so I know how to set and use this thing correctly. This one also has a low temp alarm, which I don't understand. Maybe it loses heat when contacting what you're soldering and it's telling you to wait for it to heat up again so you don't have a cold joint? What temp do you guys usually set the thing to?

I must have the model below this one. Looks about the same but mine has a dial, not digital.
