I got another tank of oxygen today. My goal is the have the front end sitting on it's own and the rear axle linked up this weekend.

This has to be my favorite build. I grew up in an area with a ton of Ranger Pre-runners and helped build my friends up. Can't wait to see the end result. Keep up the awesome work!

Not the progress I was hoping to make but having a 3 month old at home will do that I suppose....

Radius arm brackets and beam brackets are brazed on. Changed the caster on the beams so they're sitting correctly. Was hoping to get the shock mounts done but that's going to take some more work. I need to swap around the links that adjust the axle C's caster so that I have room for the shock to mount to the beam. The shocks can mount up now but I can't lean them back for the proper angle. Going to pack it all up tomorrow and take it into work to try and get the shock mounts bent up.

Here's the full stuff now. I could get more if I change around some clearance on the beams. The beam mount contacts it and keeps it from being able to go all the way up to the frame.

Won't know how much actual drop out it has until the shocks are mounted up but it's capable of a lot!

looks amazing. To be a true pre runner you should try your luck and make some fiberglass fenders...

are you going to make a roll cage?
lights?

Not sure it will be fiberglass but yes it will have flared fenders.

Roll cage? Oh yes.

Lights? Some at least!

i ay fiberglass because that is what it is on a 1.1
you would have to make it out of some kind of plastic

that and how are you going to do the bed??

I've been scratching my head the last couple days trying to figure out these shock mounts and I think I finally came to a conclusion today at lunch. i was bending up some 3/16" rod and messing around with some Tamiya mounts and something clicked. It's not really the most compact mount in the world but it'll have a decent look to it after together and should definitely be strong. CAD image for now of the idea, hopefully the real thing will be together soon.

Quick question. Why the bends in the towers?

To probably get the shocks at a decent angle that'll still work good and look good too. If the mount was straight up the shock would be at like 45* and probably wouldn't work very well. If you're talking about the bar going across the top, from what I can see in the CAD drawing, the bar would be resting on top of the shock cap.

No real reason that I could see other than some of the ones I've seen on the 1:1 looked that way. I ended up going another route that I seen on a 1:1 that I thought looked better.

The front end is finally sitting on it's own! The springs are surprisingly close to the right rate too.

It has a bit more up travel than this

Lots of drop out!

And a naked shot

Everything went together good. Driver side spring on the shock grazes the beam mount on the frame rail. Not sure if I'll let that go or maybe smooth out the mount a bit. Didn't get a chance to do the cross bar for the mounts. I think I'll get the body mounted now that way I have a good working point for placing the rear axle. Then I'll tackle the steering.
