Looks like an easy conversion to 4ws since the axles are identical. A little slow with the stock battery, but a 2s 180 fits in the holder and gives it a lot more spunk, and wakes up the servo as well. The one glaring drawback I see is that the servo can hit the front shocks and bind the suspension. I suspect there's not much to be done about that considering the car's size. Overall, fun little desktop rig.
Hi, I just got one of these temper crawlers and your post was very interesting. You ran yours on a 2S Lipo battery (7.4V) and nothing blew up?

Yes. In fact the rc4wd 1/18 D90 uses the exact save combo rx/esc and tx, and comes with a 2S lipo in the box.

How do you know that? If it's the case then it should have lipo cutoff like the D90. But I think you're thinking of the 1/18 scale ECX Temper, not the 1/24 scale that's being talked about here... I could be wrong.

Indeed you are. I know because I have owned both. The radios and esc's are identical except for the D90's TX being molded from a different color of plastic. The D90 esc dies not have any sort of lipo cutoff... They simply throw a lipo voltage checker/alarm in the box.

Actually it's a 3-wire servo in the ecx temper 1/24.

Thanks for the good info Cling. I'll plan on using a $2 lipo alarm off ebay or hk then.

So I just picked up a lot of 4 used for $150 that had only minor issues. After replacing broken parts ($10 driveshaft and $7 steering spindle), they work great.

The steering DR needed turned down to prevent the wheels from binding when moving forward or backward. :(

I plan to solve the articulation issues by removing the shocks and upper links and replacing them with a torsion (do a search if you're unfamiliar) setup using piano wire. If the axles still walk side to side then I will drill the tranny mount and move the bottom links further toward the center using a long bolt and nut, and possibly 2 correctly sized and drilled crafting beads.

If the driveshaft porcupine ball pins break, I'll replace the pins with a piece of paper clip glued in.

I picked up 2 scale bodies at Walmart for $8 in the toy section and plan to add delrin or aluminum chassis rails to mount them.

Should I make a separate build thread or try and keep all the info centralized here?

You're welcome. Sounds like you've got some fun projects. Mine has now been built into a Specter project. Which reminds me, watch out if ordering ball links because they are not the same size as the losi ones.

Thanks for the tip. I also noticed the ecx ball studs must be purchased with a full hardware set for about $20 while the losi are available separately for $5.
