| Is the SCX10 1/24 worth getting?
I really want something to have fun with indoors during the winter and was thinking about the SCX10 1/24. Is this really worth getting? Can it crawl equally good as the SCX10 1/10 relative to its size?

It's an awesome little truck. I changed the battery mount location and added rc4wd steelies and tires and it's a very capable little rig. |

IMO it's without question the best performing 1/24 vehicle straight out of the box. I love messing around with mine.

They are both same except for the body, so buy the one you like the look of, swap wheels/tires etc and really personalize it. |

So from pictures I have seen and seeing it in the box @ the store. The jeep has way less tire clearance. I have heard of people having major rubbing issues straight out of the box Underneath they are the same minus bumpers and body/body mounts. I think the white jeep does look a little cooler though. But am happy with my red deadbolt - I have done some mods And this is the Axial SCX24, not SCX10 1/24 --- just to clarify, as there isn't an SCX10 1/24 |

I'd add that yes the scx24 is a great micro crawler. Just keep in mind none will have the poise, finesse and balance that a 1/10 scale can have. Thats not a mark against the scx24 just the reality of micros.

I recently got back into the hobby after a year and a half of being completely uninterested in RC. The SCX24 has been great the past few days I've had it and its sparked the interest again. It's really entertaining to upgrade and modify and it's also pretty capable out of the box. Its got some great aftermarket support, especially in comparison to other micro crawlers. I'd recommend you pick one up and if you're looking to upgrade it maybe consider changing out the wheels/tires and servo. Loads of cool 3D prints on Shapeways as well.

Definitely a great micro and plenty capable right out of the box. But because it is in fact a micro, like all other micros, it suffers a bit from lack weight. You'll want to relocate the battery pack/tray closer to the front and add some weight in the form of brass knuckles or wheel weights like the HR brass ones, which so far seem to work well in mine. Also, adhesive tire weights are a good option for adding weight in small increments. I stuck two of them (1/4 oz ea) on top of the steering servo and that helps keep the front end down during steep inclines. I haven't yet directly compared it to my pretty modified Losi Trail Trekker, but I'd imagine it will handle the same obstacles right on par. There does seem to be a pretty decent aftermarket upgrades/parts offering so far, especially with some of the stuff you can find on Shapeways. Redesigned battery mounts, shock mounts that offer multiple mounting points, mounts for different servos, full chassis kits...all sorts of things. And the best part about modding micros is most of the parts are pretty inexpensive. You'll spend the most money on electronics if you ever choose to upgrade them and a new servo, which even a decent servo can be had for about $15. So if you're looking for something to play with indoors and something you can build and tinker with that wont' break the bank, the SCX24 is a great option! Just be warned.....They're Addicting...... |
