MASSIVE UPDATE!!!! I finally primed the darn thing. And got around to finalizing the wiring and steam pipe wraps. Don't want to snag a wire or burn a finger. That steam outlet is HOT! Then, after making some minor gap filling adjustments and re-sanding, I painted the thing in satin black. I'm not sure Satin was the right choice. Might actually be too shiny. Maybe a clear flat coat? It's already looking pretty cool though, and I'm happy with the result of all the prep and styrene work. Bumpers are looking pretty great, and I'm pretty amazed with the fact that the rear bumper is mine! Made by me! in 3D! I'll let the paint cure for another day or two before I decide if I should flat it out.

Looks fantastic! All that time shooting rivets was well spent. Doesn't look too shiny to me at all, even under the lights. Sunlight...hard to tell. |

this thing is sick... its so hard to figure out if the cover over the motor looks better.. while that makes the 1:1.. I think seeing the steam engine looks better... hah... all that awesomeness hidden..

Man that thing is sweet ! I'm debating between building a whole new truck or upgrading my 6x6 JK, I might change go for the last after seeing yours. Just wondering, what's the offset on the wheel hubs (i guess they're SLW) ? |

Cheers! There's light at the end of the tunnel! I'm almost there on the major stuff. Starting with the front, the grille is a custom job courtesy of my friend, Mr. Knight Customs himself. I gave it a little sanding to smooth it out, but left it a bit textured on purpose. Because old iron was pretty not smooth. I also got the numbers and lettering painted. I used Citadel paints from Games Workshop. The paint is so smooth, and paints with a brush so, so well. I'm quite pleased. Close-up: Also managed to sort out the steam whistle. It won't be servo actuated, so giant failure. I did my best to figure out a way to hide it all, but decided it wasn't worth it to compromise the body just to run the whistle remotely. And, interior is nearly there. A few more bits and bobs, and it'll be there. Yes, I used a wristwatch for the center dial. Looks the part and is a fun little detail. More to come!

Ha, thanks! Cheers very much! Thanks so much, Kenny's pretty thrilled with it too. Well, that's it. I'm all finished with this beast. RPP has two more of the hooks on the way, and then literally, everything is done. Feast your eyes on these photos, then I'll add some outdoor poser shots and some running video on the Youtube channel. I'm very chuffed, my thanks to some very important people who made this happen: Knight Customs (for the custom grille work, and JK accessories, including inner fenders, hood clamps and front bumper) Vanquish Products (for axles, wheels, links and support) Axial Racing (for the donor parts and for hosting AxialFest where this truck will debut) Pit Bull Tires Shapeways (for the assistance with printing some parts I designed, and the introduction to the people at Fusion 360) Kenny Hauk (for the inspiration and assistance with reference photos) and GCM Racing (without their products, it wouldn't have been possible to make this truck work) I added some tinted rear windows to hide all the relevant steam stuff. Rivet detail and MENG 32nd scale tank bolts. Yes, the mirrors had bolts too. Vanquish wheels were a pretty close match for the real deal, and LockedUp hardware to make it more real, along with GCM hubs. Pit Bull Rockbeasts because Pit Bull. Fantastic looking Curries. Quite pleased with how the interior turned out. I added some seat belts, but they can't be seen in this photo. Looking rather hot under the collar. Some more rivet detail. Made a little metal bracket and added a magnet behind the door panel to hold the whistle assembly in place. Tail lights got some color. Whole back end looks so cool. I mean hot. I don't know. That's it for now! Thanks for following along!

As a long time styrene builder, a routine custom build. With great attention to details and execution. What sets this above the crowd is the functionality, and it drives! Hang up and Drive |
