Default Solid Axle SlashC8

ok well its time to step it up on the shortcourse/trophy truck builds. i've gotten a couple of nice tube trucks built off slash components and they perform great but they lack that one awsome detail the solid live rear axle. well this one will get it all. i plan to use what i have learned on the other builds in this project. it will start with a 1/8in aluminum plate belly pan. i will build a full tube chassis off that that will have body mounts, shock mounts, and link mounts incorperated. plan is to use the stock slash tranny locked with a 6-8 cell saddle pack. this will be for the sc8 body as well. i'm leaning towards a orange maxxas tire theme with this one mainly cause i like orange plus i have some new axial rims here that need a home. i really want to build a trophy style truck with bumpers and light bar but i'll save that for chassis #2.0 ok well lets start with the belly pan........

standard tube chassis that i have been building

aluminum belly pan for the above tube chassis compared to the new SAS chassis

rough idea or how it will look. the SAS chassis will need more bracing and reinforcement in the rear area for the shock mounts and due to the fact it won't have a lower plate to attatch to for support.

orange savage shocks for the rear

Are you gonna use a WK axle or something else?

yep its going to get a wk axle and axial trans but hopefully the design will allow for the use of the stock traxxas tranny making it a pretty simple conversion for someone with a slash or rustler. will still need to pick up a sc8 body and get some cells to build some saddle packs.

ok well finnally got some progress pick. most of the frame is done. i just need to add tire mounts, front end. shock mounts, link mounts, roof light mounts, etc,.............ok wel its partially done. got started on the front bumper/light bar and im so totally happy because i was able to incorperate tmaxx plastic bumper mounts, hopefully to prevent the tube bumper from getting too tweeked. this thing is going to be so heavy im not sure what motor/esc setup is going to be neccissary. still need to pick up axle, tranny, tires, and a clear sc8 body. only real problem i can't figure out is what to do about the trailing arms. they can't be round tube but i don't want to have to make super heavy steel ones. i still have to think about that one. ok onto the pics

ok well i am super stoked on how its coming. i got the front end done today. the bumper works perfect. speaking of which i hacked the bumper apart and made a better looking one. i got my big bores in and i finnaly picked up a set of axles so i am just waiting on those to show up so i can finnish the rear. i also got the material to build the trailing arms today. still got to pick up a tranny, and a new body.

well i was going to add pics but webshots just died.............................................. .................................................. .... so i will try later...

right now its pretty balanced. but the axle is not under it yet. with the batteries in the middle with the trans and the electronics up front it should be pretty balanced with a slight rear advantage,

yes i am adding tubes from the window top bar and the lower frame rails, but honestly if were to get wreck bad enough to bend it there it would have other problems and would probably be tweeked everywhere.

ok well i got some more done on it. the axle should be here any day and i just picked up a axial tranny. i have to pick up a new body, gonna go with an all white new look. the bumper is half done. i will build a front bolt on light bar and roof light bar once i pick up some light buckets. got lots more to do especially once i get the axle. got a little treat for you all on the trailing arms.

some leftover tamiya parts make for a pretty good swaybar mount.

one pain in the a$$ to make.......

Really cool man, should come out sweet. I always liked the work you did on your mullet machines. Post it up over at Shortcourse.
