Any problems you noticed? I like what you did with the roof support, looks like we were on the same page... I tend to over-engineer things. Think I should open the gap up a little on the second rear door? Hey they do have a sh@tpipe vent don't they, I could cut a couple of them too, just trying to use up some empty spaces between panels with something usefull. Anything else I'm missing? This has to be the Grand pooba of slide-ins This is my inspration for the XL model Last edited by Speedweigand; 11-26-2012 at 12:26 PM.

yeah I whittled down the front roof support so I can get my fat fingers in there when I put the led lights in,the gap on the second door are good if they need to be adjusted a lttle sand paper will do the trick, now I just need to find some hinges for the door, and start looking for my lights, and figure out what color to paint it and get it mounted solidly to the body. It went together nice and easy no issues . now to start working on my styrene skills to build a couple roof vents and maybe a light for beside the door (porch light) not sure on the poo vent pipe, I think they should have one if they have a crapper |

Is the vent too tall? It's (4") .3333" in dia and the top part is .25 or 3" Should the base be wider? It's a scale 4" too The light housing has a recess for the LED and wires |

Another option The bottom one is .4 wide both have a 5mm flat LED The other pics were the Tamiya adapter but I think those are for bulbs the ID is tiny... bulbs would be sweet the LED's are too bright for scale stuff imo... but bulbs are pricey. And version 2 of the vent ...and new pics! taking the camper out for a trailride and a little video tomorrow |

| Re: Speedweigand Customs slide-in camper I've been a rv tech for nearly two decades. I'm a little embarrassed that I didn't know that, but don't think I've ever seen one made by Winnebago. Quote:
Any reason you're sticking with really old campers? There are some new ones that are very slick looking.

I need a vac puller to make the A/C in 2 halves, I was talking to DRW about casting one in plastic and we came to the conclusion it'd be too heavy to be practical. I have no problem making a mold but I have 0 space left for a puller Do you have one? Quote:
Indirectly there are several reasons... *The Hilux, Clod, Blackfoot are all early 80's trucks... if you had a newer truck and were going wheeling with a camper chances are it'd be a 500$ one so when sh@t happened you could just shove it off on the trail and burn it *The new ones usually have fancy aerodynamic rounded profiles which would raise the difficulty of both making it on my end and assembling it for the end user. * This ones just personal but I think the designs of the past were much more interesting to look at, tacky and wonderful. Todays styles have too many accountants effecting the outcome. Just look at the old jeep and that camper is a masterpiece of cheap american labor. I could carve a giant aerodynamic trailer outta foam, paint it white and slap a tribal dragon on the side and call it done On a side note a foam one might not be a bad idea... hmmm I searched threads about campers and saw you were working on a big drag-behind... I'm not opposed to helping you make that at all I can blast out the sides and windows with accuracy that I couldn't touch on my best day before cnc. I wanna work on one like this High departure angle, narrower more expedition oriented. I also want to have a larger one for guys more interested in making than the breaking. Here I'll just show all the pics I have in a special folder waiting to be made This this is so bad ass... I wanna hack up a lunchbox real bad This is a very real possibility by the first of the year... if you guys want this speak up, I could make this really quick. Luckily for you, the old style ac covers were squared off and boxy. The front was kinda pointed, but not rounded off at all. A scale version could be made very easily without deviating from your old school theme.

They are a little different than window units, and the old style covers were big rectangles with an "aerodynamic" pointed front. Like this, but squared off. |

I'm still waiting to see you drive it under something you shouldn't be driving it under. At a high rate of speed. Gotta do a shear load test on that baby. |

I saw some pics of what look like window units mounted in cubby holes in the side, was that factory or just a retro fit for the crafty? I'll post some pics up here in a bit, I'm sorta backed up Quote:

Are you interested in that off-road teardrop of sorts? If I can get 3-4 people on board I'll get started. Quote:
Do you just wanna see the camper fly off the back? That's no problem I have some prototypes that ultimately will get blown up or burnt... maybe blown up and burnt I'm going to guarantee a damaged Hilux bed and maybe a damaged SCX frame if it's attached It's not going to hurt the camper besides maybe taking some chunks out of the wood. So youtube ain't crap'ola on the upload so I'll have to post the vid tomorrow but here are some more stills.
