mall for the girls
You ladies that have an issue with hiking or driving can have fun at the mall, I agree with having the best rock to crawl on.

I'm totally kidding, I know there are lots of people with physical issues that get assed out if the crawling is too far (quite familiar with that myself after spending a couple nats on crutches or with pneumonia). But still, this is the nationals, the quality of rock should far outweigh other considerations so we're crowning the absolute top driver. Not saying everything else should be ignored, but the terrain should be paramount.

Seriously though, enough with the malls for the girls shit-- I'm pretty sure Chicklet would agree that that isn't the first thought for girls coming to nats. And if it is-- why are they coming to nats?

I'd drive an hour each way from the hotel for Nats level rock...but only if Nats is not a "team format".

That comment was meant for the drivers wifes. It wasn't for the pretty and cool crawler girls that would hike a mile for some good rock.

If Nationals was a true invite only "Nationals" it would be one thing, but pretty much anyone willing to pay has ran the last couple of years. And LCQ before that. I group all of these as "national events".

And the location comments are not about the hardcore drivers, they are more than willing to hike out to run. But I know many guys would be much more willing to come out if the familia could be out there. For instance, Vegas, and even Prescott had a location that was near enough to a town/mall/ shopping/ tourist stuff that is a wife and kids came out they would be able to watch daddy drive his toy cars, then run up the Visa while he kept running the rest of the day.

It is not about any single comp, the location stuff is "big picture" stuff. If people can slide in a comp while the on the family vacation, it would mean more drivers, bigger turnout, more manufacturer involvement. Maybe even have some wives/kids out next time. This area of the hobby is dead unless it changes. Parker made the jump and although I have not been to one of his G6 events, on the surface they seem to be growing. They seem exciting, and have a following. The comp scene needs to evolve, or it will die.

2.2 pro. 2.2 shafty, 1.9 is dead, lets bury it along with supers. Maybe add a scale class and let them run gates. No winch, no scale points, not so many rules. Rule 1: does it look scale-ish? Yes, then run it. 1.9, 2.2, what ever, wraith, tuber, honcho 20 " wheelbase whatever. Get it through the 20" wide gates gates in a comp style fashion ( no touches, roll over. etc).

I think the Violator has almost exactly the same thoughts as myself about making a comp that much more attracting to everyone. I have wanted to hold a competition here in the Northwest for a few years now. I spent a whole 3 day weekend traveling the east side of Oregon trying to find the ultimate spot with several factors in mind:
Cheap yet good hotels (persuading the management for group rates, takes some ass kissing, but is possible)
Within 1.5 hours of a major airport
Rock within 15 miles of lodging
Enough quality rock for all classes
Not sensitive to rain (Hence why I was in east oregon :P)
Entertainment for families
Good evening entertainment

After driving over 900 miles I was able to find everything I needed, except the most important thing; rock
For those who know eastern Oregon, that sounds crazy, until you begin looking at our rock. We have alot, just not any in a large area that we need for our cars. We have some killer rock along the coast, however no one wants to come to the NW for Rain to hit and ruin the weekend. I cannot control the weather, and even if done in the summer it can rain. I'm extremely fearful of setting up an event and watching the rain gods ruin it.

This is how we will be running are events this year.
Yes we are a newer club and there is no real interest in 1.9 or supers up here.

So we will be running-
Sportsman
Pro
and
1.9 scale and 2.2 outlaw in the afternoon.

If you want 100+ drivers, Falls of the Ohio is the place to be.

I would like to see some better pictures of that place, the ones on the internet don't look very exciting.

So far, the RI spot meets every requirement I've seen posted so far... Airport less than an hour away, hotels of Newport or Middletown within a 15-20 min drive to the comp location, tons of restaurants and shopping, bars and small casino close by, beaches, beautiful views, and lots of good rock... Not trying to be pushy about it but want people to know it'd be worth the trip.

Theres no doubt about it Bob. A simple google map search of the area tells the whole story.

I want to check out some of those uber wealthy houses along the coast up there...crazy shit!

Thanks for your efforts Bob. this location would definitely not be possible without your efforts.

I also want to thank Shane and Ashton for stepping up and trying to make it happen. Petit Jean Park, Arkansas is very much in the running because of their efforts.

We have to have MULTIPLE efforts going on at the same time in case something doesn't work out. Its also not too late to work on other locations as well.

Jason and Art Bell spent 3 days scouting and knocking on doors....NO ONE ELSE in Vegas even returned their call!

Red Rocks won't give you permission. Yes there is a place outside the park that can be crawled(no one ever got permission to be there to my knowledge), but you would have to park in a ditch along the road.

Moab is over hyped when it comes to RC Crawling. Its ABSOLUTELY beautiful and seemingly limitless. The truth is there are 2x spots BFE (Private) which is horrible for todays RC, and a 300 x 100 area that Nat was held multiple times. Most of that area is either flat or loose rock. Its also now very expensive! (approx $3000)

Kinda goes against our attempt to have it on the eastern side of the country, but I wouldn't rule it out. I personally am not flying out in winter to Colorado to scout RC locations, but if someone has local knowledge. pictures, and information I am open to at least putting it on the board.

There are better places in Vegas, we know that and we visited them all while we were there, but compromises had to be made. The reason why we chose the spot in Vegas: Accessibility, Cost, Cellular Signal, Logistics, and the rock was decent.

Most of the really great crawl spots in Vegas are on either National Park land, or weren't willing to work with us. With the temps during the time of year we hold Nationals being what they are, we also didn't want to be too far away from EMS services for obvious reasons.

I personally would have preferred to go to a spot in the Valley of fire that we have been allowed to comp on before, but the logistics of it were too much for a first run in Vegas, the cell signal is iffy AND it's about 1 hour or more from the strip. It is still an option though, and we still have a good relationship with Station Casinos to get rooms at their northern most hotel in Las Vegas and with the Rangers, so it's a MAYBE.

We had two options in the Valley of fire:

Seven Sisters Picnic Area:

and the Area 5 Campground, which I have very few pictures of:

Last call for anyone to come up with locations (eastern US preferred) that they are willing to step up and help secure for Nationals 2014.

Rausch Creek is another option, I have spoken to the owner and he would love to host it. However I really like the RI spot.

Disappointing, at the lack of general crawler population participation. Nobody willing to step up? Bueller??
