What I wouldn't give for a flat back yard! At least we've got enough space behind our shed and the kids clubhouse to build a decent crawler course...

Thanks for sharing. It's got me thinking.

Great thread Ty!

Cheers,
Doc

All our tracks here in Colorado are closed course tracks. Not a lot of guys are willing to chase their car so this opens it up to more people. Tracks are generally real tight and technical so a milk crate isn't needed but probably would help, plus it gives you something to carry your stuff in In Europe it's almost exclusively chase style driving.

Tomorrow I'll be posting pictures of me and my buddies track we have been working on lately. We have it set up for multiple track layout and can cater to any scale or handicap!

How do you guys get rid of the grass? I've got a couple of large fields around here that I can use...to a point. Can't haul in any large equipment so I need to get the grass gone without a backhoe or bobcat.

Bring a Shovel, Mulch Rake, Buckets & Gloves.
1. Shave of the top layer of rocks, grass and roots with a shovel.
2. Fill it in with clean dirt. Add water if possible. Pack it down as best you can.
3. Use Ground Clear or some other "kill everything" weed killer once a year.
4. Drive on it A LOT. The more you drive on it, the less weeds to pick

If you have a supply of water near by its a BIG help. If it's a dusty track it helps to soak it a couple hours or the day before you run. It helps keeping the clouds of dust down & helps track wear down.

Advil is my friend the next day

It does, but it is all worth it. The Hoon470 track in Morrison Colorado (which underwent another remodel) was built the same as Basic mods said. When the track was first built though I used a weed wacker and shaved the grass down to the dirt. That helped a lot and was pretty quick. Another way to do it too is to dig up the grass and flip it upside down. That will keep the grass out for a long time. After that drive it a ton, walk it, drag your feet on it, spin a motorcycle tire on it, anything works to kill the grass.

Hoon470 received another addition. This one took a couple weeks to get done, but should be well worth the effort.

Here is the rest of the track as of today, don't mind the massive amount of water. Colorado has been getting non stop rain the last couple of days.

Ty, have you checked out the track lately?

looks like I need to re-waterproof everything so I can submarine it.

hopefully it will dry out a bit buy race day or we will have some MUDDY conditions (not that there is anything wrong with that!!!). time to install the mud flaps

Checked it out today. The water is 3 or 4 inches higher then the photos posted above. The main bridge is also 50 feet down and bent around a tree. There is a lot of new dirt and sand though, so repairs should be quick and better then ever.

The Hoon470 looks like a great track. From the first pictures posted of it, thru the flooded time I can see quite abit of work has gone into it. Nice job getting it back to its former glory(actually looks better now)
