In haste and knowing how they get tortured on 8th buggies, I ordered a set of Universals for the front. After the fact, I probably should have saved my money and just got some spare dog bones...but they already had shipped.

Here they are:

We will see how it goes...

Great pictures so far. I really like seeing so many DRX's together. Wish I had someone to run with. Can't wait to see some videos!

So I decided for lunch I was going to change my front shafts to the universals. Thinking this would be a quick and easy process was naive of me.

I can't get the wheel nuts off. These things are welded on.

I tried the tool, then a 10mm rachet...even clamped the tire in place to get a better hand on it...

Nothing.

I then put the socket on the nut and tapped it thinking that it may loosen...NOPE.

May have to put heat on it...

How are you going to heat it without melting the wheel?

As you figured out, they really put the excessive torque to these wheel nuts from the factory. It was heck getting them off the first time as well.

Ha, I forgot about that. Yea, Kyosho on tightening those nuts so friggin tight. I thought I was gonna shear the axle.

Could you try a small impact gun, like a 3/8" drive one? Or hell, hit it with a 1/2" one, it'll either come off or break something

One of the screws in my spur gear was in so tight, I thought they installed it with red loctite.

The stock wheel nuts are so tight because they have a serrated face that digs into the wheel. Once you break the initial seal, make sure you really tighten them down again. If they're not super tight they'll spin right off. That's what happened to me so I just replaced them with nylon insert lock nuts from Lowes.

I cannot break them loose. Tomorrow I am getting the impact wrench out.

I may need to find another option. I saw yours that you got at Lowes, may be taking a trip there.

GDB wanted me to post this up...

These are pictures of the chassis lid and how well it works...

The terrain was pretty muddy...

Here is what the Chassis lid looked like...

And this shows you how clean it is...

Notice that he put some foam in the front and rear to block the openings. Though it shouldn't be an issue now due to the cold weather, the foam may restrict the air and cause high temps in summer heat.

Got my package today with the WRX body and wheels and tires...

I have to say that these dirt hawgs (P/L #1071-00) are sick...

They are a little wider but I like the tread pattern.

Also got some track items...

Can you show the white wheels with the demon body?
Did you get the cones local or online? If online, Do you have link?
Also, Is there performace differance C4 vs WRX? I know you haven't
Driven with the new body yet. Just curious to know if you notice a differance
when you do.

I got the front tires off...had to use a 24V Impact Gun...Seriously and still tore my hand up.

I was able to install the universals...Nice construction, a little more HD than the dog bones but the key is the universal...no popping bones now...

Also test fit the Dirt Hawgs. Front has ton of room...looks like rear may rub a little...but I have to try and get those wheel nuts off now.
