| WOW---another TLT buildup--Revap to COMP rig
Ya, not another one, lol. It all started by getting my 10 year old a decently built TLT-1 for x-mass. So since I figured he had one, heck I needed one too (actually wanted a really cool RC thing since I was a kid). So I got in on ultimatehobbies sale for new years and bought a TLT-1 and have spent the last couple months slowly gathering some parts. Here are the specs TLT-1 Rock buster Tekin Rebel 2 ESC 19 turn motor(55t lathe should be here in a couple days) Stampede trans HPI 5" shocks Traxxas radio/reciever 2.2 masher 2k's (fronts have BB's) Metal geared servo's front/rear I built the links using 1/4" alumimum rod, drilling them and tapping them to 6-32 and using althread to connect the hiems Last edited by crash; 01-23-2008 at 11:28 PM. |

Yeah those are some pretty sick shocks. Where did you get them and how much?

They are HPI's http://www2.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/WTI0001P?&I=LXHSR5 Right now I am fighting bad torque twist. hit the gas and the body shoots over to one side so I am guessing the springs are too soft... |

truck looks great.........and for torque roll try a stiffer shock on the left rear!

shock piston change or heavier wt oil will help, or stiffer spring. the spring might change the artic a little though if too stiff.

changing the shock piston will work.. but you still might need a stiffer spring

The shocks are the 117mm length ones So I started playing with it, basically kinda driving myself mad, lol. In any case I think a part of the problem is the link geometry. With the origional way I had them you got alot of axle steer which was causing the chassis to roll to one side under load (granted yes the spring rates are not helping matters any). So now I am thinking about moving the upper mounts at the chassis to above the driveshafts(getting seperation on the chassis side) and I was also having clearance issues with the lower links to the driveshafts.

A old image showing 'Pede, 2.5 Maxx & Revo shafts.... Jato shafts are almost equal in O.D. to 'Pede shafts, yet Jato shafts have a lot more splines.

Crash... You need to drive your butt down to Portland for the ORCRC competition on the 19th. The ORCRC Comps are mostly 2.2 based so I bet you'd be able to touch and play with everyone else's TLT.

Ok so with the current configuration my upper link on one side was hitting the driveshaft plus alot of body roll that would keep the rig leaned (I know stiffer springs would help but I really didn't think that was the root problem). So I decided to relocate the uppers on the chassis side. It helped with some of the body roll and my link was no longer hitting the driveshaft but due to al the links being paralell it caused alot of side to side movement so I was not pleased with it at all and scrapped that setup. one thing I did notice apon looking at how the rig was reacting thru the suspension travel that both setups casued a little bit of axle steer and looking deeper into it--being as how light the rig is and the fact the axles are locked up I think alot of the body roll was being caused by the suspension loading up. I had a simular thing happen to a 1:1 rig I built (4 link/coilovers) for a guy using his specs on the suspension and (triangulated 4 link) and it had alot of axle steer when the suspension cycled and when you loaded the rig up the body would dang near shoot to one side. Off with that setup. Here is what I did. I went ahead and left the lower links alone as they looked to be in a good location. Last edited by crash; 01-14-2008 at 07:41 PM. |
