these wheels have got me thinking. seems like a lot of people want to have some weight on the knuckles and some in the wheels. i know i want to give that a try. with these i could see knuckles weights and then bolting some rings to the inside face of the wheel. no more slugs. just one type of weight system to have on hand. looking forward to prices and availability!

Fancy cutouts never got me laid.. I'll keep the dog dish. Any chance of reusing slugs from my never looking back wheels? |

I knew everybody needed a new wheel to compensate for knuckle weights but it seemed that nobody wanted to move on them and change their wheels. These wheels will allow for 1.2 oz more knuckle weight over a SLW and its further out to the wheel face. I dont know if that will be enough but, with the ability to change wheel width cheaply, maybe some will also try a .7 wide wheel that will allow my 2.7oz steel ring. That should get XR's (worst off for knuckle weight) in the ball park of 8oz of knuckle weights. Add that to a 2oz wheel, and 5oz of tire and now youre talking turkey. I have seen a lot of guys only run a tiny bit of knuckle weight and expect drastic results. If you were running 16oz of T/W/F and then go to a 2 oz wheel with 3 oz of knuckle weight and 5 oz tire, its just not going to be the same thing as you had before. I think this is where people get frustrated and confused. You cant expect great results when you loose a lot of weight, especially if you have been running a heavy setup. Marc from Chaotic has been one of these people I have been watching and have tried to keep my opinions to myself. He has tried ditching most his weight and just doing knuckle weight and then doing the knuckle weight with some in the wheels. I recently talked 53willys into going full on loaded with knuckle weight and now I am wishing I wouldnt. I have to work much harder at handing him his ass now Anyway, Marc saw his car work, and it works really well. He is now full on knuckle weight with my light wheels. It will be interesting (for me and him) to see if my theories are correct. If he does not like them now, there is not much else we can do for him. Depending on Marc's reaction, I could very well think of doing what you suggested. Its a good idea but I am heavily leaning towards my theory. Sorry for the rant, just thought I would share a big reason I wanted to make these wheels in the first place. Time will tell which is better. | |
