My point was that if it didn't work we wouldn't be using it, not that it was the best available option.

Silver solder and a small mapp gas tank with a torch tip work? I tried that with propane and just couldn't get it hot enough.

Just a thought - Has anyone used the flux and solder that you use to join copper pipes for soldering/brazing brake line on RC? Wonder if that would work; it's cheap.

Yeah MAPP is much hotter than propane.

I understand what you were saying, I was just trying to add to the list of possibilities of a filler material.

I've actually been using a 15% rod w/ a MAPP tank to use as a filler layer, some of my braze joints aren't always aesthetically pleasing although they are plenty strong. The lower melting point of the 15% rod doesn't affect the bronze joint.

.023 wire with a little bit of a longer "stick out" should help keep the heat down on the mig..... with that said silver solder is deff a great way to go .... i have both an preffer the silver over the mig

Oh also. Your shield gas should be a mix of argon and co2.... Straight argon is used for aluminum... Might be the source of your problem

The gas is def a problem. Argon likes to wet out more on the edges making the HAZ (heat affected zone) really wide.

Be sure to wire-wheel the coating off the brakeline first- it's very toxic when it burns. Use .023, C02/Argon mix, and a welder with infinite voltage and wire control. (Such as the 110volt Miller and some Lincoln machines.)
