yes, 6061 tends to crack in bends, i've had good results using some heat......or any 50 series like you said.....i use a dynasty 300 and a syncrowave 250 both wicked machines, I like the 5052, welds good, strong, and bends nice as well, you can get it from 1/8" on up....very nice to work with

A trick for bending 6061 is to use pure carbon flame to blacken the piece then use a neutral flame and heat it till the black comes off and shows the aluminium then bend it.

I bought the Durafix knock-off they sell at harbor freight and a propane torch yesterday. I'm trying to acquire some steel plate before the weekend to see how the product works. I'll post pics of success... or failure!

Hey all. I put the Alumiweld I bought from Harbor freight to the test. I cover that in the first few minutes of this video. The rest of the video is for a build update that I am doing, so don't feel obligated to watch the whole thing!

That is killer, I'm on my phone so I only watched the first part but I well watch the rest later this evening. I am deff going to pick some of that up. Seems like a nice quick fix while I keep messing with the Tig.

How much clean up was needed after the ally brazing? Or was the joint shown right after brazing.

Depending on carefulness really.i did some light filing before this video, but nothing crazy. However, the rods are thick and the braze flows quickly, so use delicately and sparingly or you'll have a mess.

This looks like the timberwolf chassis that you bolt together, you built this?

Yes. I explain how I do the tube work in my build thread here:

It was modeled after the truck built by 51WillysJeep which became the Timberwolf. It was the first truck that totally blew me away when I first became interested in crawlers. I asked him if it would be ok to do one as well, and he said yes.
