try Micro Fasteners not a set but they do have the individual dies (and taps) from 2mm up to 4mm by .5 increments they are my source for metric hardware the sets I see in ebay do not have the 2mm and do you want the bigger sizes that come in sets anyways? Harbor frieght has a comprehensive kit for around 40.00 . I have been using it for years. I believe it goes down to 2mm up to 5/8 or so . Metric and standard, havnt broke a tap/die yet. Alum, stainless, spring steel.....no problems.

Try a local wholesale hardware place Fastenal. I bet you can find them there individually and pretty inexpensive too

I really don't like sets when it comes to taps. I purchase mine individually, usually from McMaster or MSC. Sets will give you a broad range, but realistically how many do you really need? It looks like you're only looking for 2-3 sizes, so why spend money on taps you won't use. Buying quality taps individually is more expensive, but in the sizes you are talking about, you want good quality. |

I'll second CHUD, one thing you never skimp on is taps and dies. If you go cheap you get crappy threads, burred, soft, uneven etc etc. By quality individuals and you will be much happier in the long run. Especially for smaller threads like the ones you want to do you need to go quality. Operating a machine shop has taught me tons and tons about tooling and this was one of the first things I changed up. The original tooling that was being used wasn't the best, even though we work 99% in aluminum you still need quality tools. --Dan Last edited by sickcivic95; 03-19-2014 at 07:45 PM. |

i get my 3mm 4mm 4-40 6-32 8-32 and other small taps off the snap-on truck, i usually get two of each and they are the best taps ive used in the smaller sizes. i have wore out a lot of 3mm and 4-40 taps in the last 12 years. i can honestly say they are well worth the $2-3 each they cost me.

Drill bits, taps, dies, saw blades, grinding discs, files, etc... are considered consumable and they will not make good on them if they break or dull. The tap & die handle holder and the plastic case itself are the only parts of that set covered under Sears lifetime warranty. .

using a good wax stick or oil while you are taping and proper technic gives long life more then anything....grind away through a hole or rod without and SNAP ....
