Hey Natedog, sorry I missed your post-question last month!
I have been looking at the "Old Rusty Crusty" body lately and have desided to put it and the bumpers back on my ascender and get it on the ground. Pictures sometime this week!

Hey Bananaclip, here are the photos of how I mounted my transfer case. This a different case from earlier in my build, but same kind of mount.
I made a aluminum plate and drilled and tapped it to use the tranny holes, and then drilled holes to match the holes in the transfer case. I did do a little grinding one the tranny mount so the case would sit a little lower.
Hope this helps!

Also took some photos of my two speed shift servo and linkage, and rear shock mounts.

Nicely done! I would add some cross members back in rear of frame for strength though.

Thanks Natedog, I'm still working on switching it all back to the beater body and that is going to be part of changes. But thanks for keeping an eye out for me, god only knows I need the help!

THE OLD RUSTY CRUSTY JEEP
Let me tell you the story about the old jeep I uncovered in the rock pit. Ages ago I was driving my old Rubicon in the rock pit and broke a axle. Not having the money to fix it I covered it with a tarp and walked away.
Fast forward to today, I was passing by that pit and saw the yellow tarp still covering the old jeep.
Wondering what the old girl looked like, I pulled tarp to find a to find a rusted old heap. Someone had even tried to remove the roll cage.
I managed to get the jeep and cage back to the shop and started cleaning her up a little.

I moved the body onto the lift to get a better look at everything, not to bad, to my surprise the floor board was in pretty good shape.
I think I can save her!

I'll start rebuilding her later!

I got the body put back on the chassis and the roll cage mounted on it.

Some photos of the rust damage!

Mother Nature really did a number on the body!!! (With a little help from me and a little rusting agent)!

Pictures of the interior and cage design.

Next project is to figure out some axle weights. (Maybe some brass added to the axles?)

I wanted to add weight to the front of my ascender, and thought about weighting the front axles and then I came across these in my build box. They will make perfect brake drum spindle weights!

If you have followed any of my builds you know that I like to repurpose used items. I think these are used to close off plugins on floor mounted electrical boxes. I gave $2.00 apiece for them.
I also ordered some alum front spindles (VTR33401 as they are designed for the ascender spindle weights.

I drilled a hole in them so I could use a 10-32 X 1 1/2" bolt to clamp them together and chuck them up in my lathe.

They needed to be machined so 1.9 wheels will fit over them.

Next, I counter sunk them with a 1 1/4" bit so there is a cavity for the 12mm hex to fit into, and it also makes room for the VP wheel mount to fit inside the weight.

A 15/32" pass through hole is next, so it will fit tightly over the flange on the alum spindle.
Next is a 2mm pass through hole to mount the weight to the spindle.

I cut a slot in the weight so I could tighten the 12mm hex pins and mounted them on the chubs. You can see that I aged them.

A few shots of what they look like mounted, and how they fit inside the wheels.

Sooooooo. $4.00 and a little machining time for 2.5 oz of weight on each side!!

And now, a side shot of the new stance with IROK 1.7 Super Swampers mounted on 1.9 Locked-UP wheels and rings.

Next will be relocating the bumpers for better approach and decent. Thanks for looking!!!

I worked on the rear brake weights today. They finished up at 1.5 oz.

I machined the lock-outs so the weights will slip on behind the 12mm hex.

Looks good, you'll age them too I assume? I don't see in the pics but assume you drilled them and attached same as fronts? All these brake drums are putting lots of non-rotational weight down low...nice.

Thanks Natedog, I will age them to take off the shine. As far as attachment, they fit so tight that I'm trying E6000 for now and see how they hold.
So fr a little advice, I'm going brushed on this rig. I have a
two speed tranny, a 35t holmes motor, holmes esc. Not sure what gearing (48p) to use for a good trail-comp rig with a tall 1.9 tire?

I went as low as I could for gearing. 89/12. Thinks it's 89? Whatever the stock ascender spur gear is. I did find an 11 tooth pinion but it was way more money than the 12. I run the stock 35turn brushed motor and esc. I did notice a little more control with the slightly smaller than stock 14tooth pinion. And with the two speed, I can get some wheel speed in certain situations. I don't comp but do pretty rugged climbing trails.
