Couple of quick questions.Where did you get the shock mounting tabs or did you make them? Also, what gas do you use on your brazing setup.I use Mapp gas but it doesn't seem hot enough to me.I wasn't using safety sil though Sent from my SM-G900R6 using Tapatalk |

Yes, I been using this type of torch for 30+years. It supplies it's own oxy threw the handle. It only smokes if you strike it a little lean. I just replaced that torch, hose, and gage about three years ago, the old one lasted over 27 years. The acedylene tank is called a B-tank, you buy the first one and then you just take it to a welding supply store and exchange it when it is MT. Ernie, |

I had a full size set of oxy an acetylene and a pureox brand torch a few years back.Got needing money an had to sell them.Hated that. The Mapp gas doesn't do too bad.Kind of hard to melt the bronze brazing rods I had.Mind if I post a pic of the last one I done? I'd love to have had those small tabs that you are using instead of making my own lol.People need to try their hand at brazing an make stuff. You can get a small torch an Mapp gas at Home Depot or Lowe's pretty cheap.Just try it. Sent from my SM-G900R6 using Tapatalk |

Very nice looking truck there avengernut! I haven't tried brazing rod, but I think if you tried safety Sil 56 you wouldn't go back.

X2 I've done a lot of welding steel with stick and wire feed, but have not tried brazing rod or Safety Sil 56, Buddy says Safety Sil56 is the best, and his work always comes out very nice. He was working with small torch and then moved up to a tiny little setup, he loves it...so much easier to do more work without un-doing nearby silver solder joints.

Ok Nate, you asked for it. It has been awhile, and starting to feel like doing a little in the shop. I took a little time building a couple servo winches for my buddy Poprivet, so now back to the bronco. Painted the chassis, rock sliders, and front bumper so now it's time to start putting things back together. So I know this has been done before with axial axles but haven't seen any with the ascender axles. I wanted to add some more non rotating weight to the front so thought I'd do some weighted beef tubes. I'm using some brass pipe and soldered repurposed brass on the ends. So off to the lathe. Turned and ready to measure and cut to length. I may have a little more later. Last edited by CODYBOY; 05-30-2016 at 09:30 PM. |

Looking good Ernie. Chassis and drive train look slick, and good thinking with the brass. Can't wait to see the finished product. The servo winches are awesome by the way. The savox is put in UNCLE would rip it in half i think. How you feeling lately? Better than peachy I hope? |

Feeling better every day, and I'm way past peachy now. Three sets, wow pete I need to catch my breath from doing these first. One of the steps I forgot to mention, or show was having to drill out the axles so I could get the tube into them, even forgot to take photos!! Sorry! Anyway, got a little more done this morning. I cut the shafts to clear the diff bearings. Because I opened up the ID of the axle shafts so much, I decided to JB Weld the brass into the axle along with drilling and taping for 3mm screws. May be over kill but better safe than sorry. I don't know if you can tell, but I narrowed the axles 3/16" on each side to get the inside of my front tires inside the width of my front doors to be class II legal. All for now, thanks for looking. Ernie, Forgot to mention, this is 44G of non rotating weight to the front! Last edited by CODYBOY; 05-31-2016 at 11:10 AM.
