Okay I finally moved on from my many other works in progress to the Ascender. I see I'll need a new panhard link and steering link to match up with the SCX 10.2 Knuckles and hubs. Is there a know length that works with these parts? I'm playing around with the spare links I have and nothing is an exact fit. EDIT: okay I found some spacers that get me pretty close, although i'm having a bit of a hard time checking if its centered since it moves as the suspension compresses I wanted to adjust the hub angle after tightening it once so I unscrewed the bolt that holds on the hub knowing it was so tight it may be an issue and right as I had it back together and almost tight the head of the screw sheared off . I think it will hold just fine, but if I ever need to remove it I'll probably have to replace the hubs as it so tight I don't even dare to attempt to remove it. Hey Casey, If you send me a measurement I probably have a have a turn buckle the right length that you could then fine tune you adjustments. The screws in the chubs are tight so that the threads lock into the brass and keep the chub from turning. Unless you want to try and clock your axles a little more it shouldn't be a problem. you can still take the axle apart by taking the knuckle screws out. First time I've seen that happen. Let me know how I can help you. Ernie |

I just wanted to update what I have been working on. Sorry it hasn't been my K10! I wanted to build a couple starter trucks for my Son and Grandkids for Christmas. I figured a couple Twin Hammers would fit the bill nicely! A trailing truck/rock crawler and a trailing truck/go fast rig! Back to my K10 later, family comes first! Those look SWEET Ernie!!! I'm still thinking about ordering one up for the girlfriend's son. I've got a few updates coming soon and might be in need of your services. Keep up the good work! Sent from my SM-G930V using Tapatalk |

Now that I have finished the Christmas trucks, time to update this thread a little. First is a new motor, I put one of these in my TRX4 and it has a very smooth start up and good speed for trailing and crawling. New shoes are next. SSD wheels and proline tires. I wanted to put shorter shocks on my TRX4 so I bought some DravTech 80mm big bore shocks from Dlux Fab, so I thought I would try these out on my ascender. I built some wheel well/sliders covers so I mounted my electronics on one side and a battery mount on the other. Pretty much balanced the weight of everything. My skid clearance is pretty good with this set up. Here is a pic of the custom VP Currie axle with Codyboy Design modified steering. I've only built two axles with this steering set up. It has Dlux Fab brass knuckle weights. Almost 12 oz. of none rotating weight. And you can see the steering gain. My 66 body and another shot of the steering. I dusted off my airbrushes for this one. (Pluto is excited to be in the passenger seat). A shot of the winch and front approach. Thanks for looking, and more later. Ernie Last edited by CODYBOY; 12-17-2017 at 07:14 PM.

That front axle is intense! Nice job. Can't wait to hear how you like a front motor ascender once you run this truck. Ben |

The hammers look great, they are an excellent platform in my opinion, but that steering is flat out impressive. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

and I thought it did good. Still needs some tuning. But I'm working on a crazy idea that I can't get it out of my head and as one of my RC buddies I'm sure you know about those!!! Thank you sir, I love to tinker. Quote:
Thanks Neil, I like to pass all my build info forward. Ok, as I told Ben I have had this crazy idea running around in my head and I can't get rid of it without putting it down on paper. If I could come up with a way to marry the TRX4 portals to ascender axles would it be of interest to any of you?????????? I've just put a couple hours in on it so it is still in that little thing running around in my head stage! Any input is welcome. Ernie Last edited by CODYBOY; 01-08-2018 at 07:06 PM.

Ok, I worked on the TRX4 portal/ascender axle marriage today and pretty much have all the parts machined to build the axle. That's the good news! I thought I should work on figuring what my final drive ratio will be. With chino63 help we found that the portal gear ratio is 2.3:1 so if I throw that into the ascender ratio that puts final drive Ratio at 105.8:1. Ascender stock final ratio with 86/14 is 46:1. The closest I can get with available gearing is 84/24 which comes out to a final drive of 60:1. It is still possible for me to do since I have a GCM forward motor mount. But I would have to make a transfer case with a reduction of 2.3:1 to get the stock ratio back to the axles. I'm still going to do it but not right now! Thought I'd poke my head in here and see what kind of shenanigans you've been up to. I see you've been up to a lot of good! That 66 is looking like one bad ass rig! |

or to appease the super-scale nerds out there, how hard would it be to offset the front pumpkin, depending on if you are building a ford, or chevy, or mopar? it just so happens a ford left (as you drive it) pumpkin offset on ascenders with forward GCM mount would benefit from more 2 speed selector shaft clearance... ;) pretty hard to find narrow axles with that feature with this much steering throw. like, yours would be a worlds first... AGAIN. i realize this would be quite a challenge for the brass tubes, getting them balanced left to right with unequal tubes. but hey you know if uh, you need something to keep you busy? |

You mean like this?... But opposite offset. I'm sure we could come up with a way... Ben Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

Exactly like that!!! haha wow! and that answer just gives me more questions... first being... what the heck motor mount kit is that?! and... and what the heck leafs are those... 3d printed and they just slide over the tubes?! you guys will never cease to amaze me... Take a look at my thread. Jump to page 5 because that's where I got updated pictures put back up. But read it for information. Ask any question there, I don't want to hijack ernies thread. I made the motor mount and axle and everything basically lol. My little Jimmy... lol Ben

Chris, Ben is one of the best innovators on here bar none. I bet if we told him something won't work he would figure out a to make it work just to prove us wrong! The tires look nice on there Ben. I could turn you some foams for them if you would like! Ernie |
