Hi Biggame,
congrats on your rig. Everything you did is really nice and clean!
Was wondering if you had a hard time drilling the holes in the rear axles?
aren't they hardenned?

thanx greatly for your input mr jugger , the axles are very very hard , i would imagine they would take some real drilling with hobby/diy tools , but i used the big monster slow speed pillar drill in the pics and it made short work of the axle steel , i used one bosch cobalt bit to do both axles with some old singer sewing machine oil from 1950 !! for cut and lube , and i think the bit would easily drill a good few more thanks again for your post , cheers shaun

Thx for the tip on the cobalt bit Biggame, as I only own regular ones that I think wouldn't last long
As for the semi locking performace vs a diff locker, how would you rate it in crawling situation?
I am not planning to really crawl that much with mine, but more trailing and soft bashing, but it could always help going over though obstacles or steep hills.

im using mine for mainly the same things as you the crawling ability is still very good , indeed , due to the 500k oil , i only realy notice im on an open diff when i get into a heavy bind , as the front diff is also a semi locker the power is nearly always distributed evenly between both axles and the contacting wheels continue to turn even when the other wheel on that axle has lost traction , due to the heavy oil , it seems like the rig doesnt weigh heavy enough to cause drive loss in the contacting wheels in a full twist even with the semi locker , but when running at speed , bashing or racing , the rig with a locker in there was totaly pointless , it was no use at all to me , i think this is maybe why you see so many nearly new hammers for sale ? people buy them and try them and realize the dont work at all as a crawler with the front diff open and useless as a fast runner with the rear locked as they spend more time on their roof ? untill i set up these diffs front and rear this truck to me was about as much use as a chocolate tea pot ! cheers shaun

Thx for the very detailed explanation about the transmission behavior Biggame. I really appreciate!
I actually never played with mine, as I bought it second hand as a rolling chassis. was not a great deal though, as I am new in the hobby and didn't knew what to look for.... Turned out that this poor little gizmo had been really mistreated and there's a lot of work going on on my side rebuilding everything from the ground up and replacing each and every worn bit out of it.
Only good things are that I now know the beast, and that it came with a GCM front plate lol
Guess I will need to go the semi locked rear diff way too!
Thx for sharing your experiments

This mod will be a game changer! Shipping charges may be a bit expensive, BUT, would you be willing to do others??

this is amazing man, that is awesome work on the front diff, if you talk vaterra into making them I'll be all over it, I'm a bit apprehensive to try the machining myself, much more of a wood and plastics guy than metal

just hope they go for it mate ? its a hard job getting the holes through exactly square to the drillbit and shaft or the sun gear will run buckled/warped and the diff wont work at all ? i will keep you posted
