Codyboy Rebuilds His TRX4 "BULLDOG"

Ok, magic yeti and carnaw, you weights are on their way. I sent you a PM with tracking numbers.
Sacha, I didn't realize you have the brass portal covers until yesterday evening. They are a little thicker than the stock ones, so the weights hit them just before they snug up. So a couple things to fix that. I use a dremel and remove a couple mm of material from the inside of the weights mounting segment. You need to grind from screw hole to screw hole. Or you can remove the material from the pretty portal covers. Another thing you can do is put a little E6000 glue, or Shoe Goo in the holes on the portal and screw the weight on just so the screws are snug. The glue will keep the screws from backing out, yet will let you remove them without a problem. This will work for anyone else who wants to use my weights with the MFR portal covers. "thumbsup"

Here is a PM I got today that I wanted to share with you TRX-4 guys.

I can honestly say that your wheel weights were so obvious of an advantage that guys were complaining about them. I ran against highly modified trx-4 and every other make. My bone stock servo was cooked at the end of round 2 (I have at least 15 packs (5800 lipo) through it. Not bad for stock.
I had a score of 34 and 31 the winner of the 2.2 unlimited had a 29/33.
It was amazing seeing my rig going through the rocks and seeing other trx-4. I never even adjusted the shocks yet!
Thank you again for giving me this unfair advantage.

I'd say another happy customer!;-);-)

I just did a little treatment to the Codyboy Wheel Weights using a product called Brass Black, its an acid and I believe it just tarnishes the metal.

I took some pictures as I did it,

I took everything apart and hit it with some steel wool

Degreased with denatured alcohol

I used a cotton swab to dab the brass with the brass black. The liquid is clear but turns dark blue as it touches the brass.

first coat

the cardboard worked out good, the brass black liquid soaked in an helped to get the sharp edges where the liquid wanted to pull away (surface tension). I flipped it and applied it to the other side while letting the bottom soak on the wet spot.

after putting it face down and flipping it the coverage was a lot better

Then I rinsed with water, they say to wipe it down with a soft rag but doing so was wiping off the tarnish so i did one more coat and just rinsed. they recommend a sealer but I'm not going to bother with it.

I forgot to snap a picture of it dry, but the color ended up a bit on the gray side.
EDIT: heres a few shots

I'm pretty pleased with the results.

They look nice Casey, that should make them blend in really nice.
Are you going to take your Trx-4 and ascender to the RPP Jamboree. I 'm going to try and call Jim Logg at RPP tomorrow and find out if the fires are going to cause changes in the event? "thumbsup"

Hey Digdat0 thanks for the kind words! Rules say I can't talk about price for products so I will send you a PM with details. I see you are in Oregon, if your ok with saying on here, what part? I'm in Oakridge. "thumbsup"

I just spoke to someone at RPP and they said the Jamboree is still a go, I'm happy :D:D

Hey Casey, I think I may have something that may make you even a little happier. We had dinner with Kelly and Barb Lunsford tonight and I may have some titanium links for you to test on your TRX4, at the Jamboree, including steering links. We will be at the condo in Nice around 4 Thursday evening. Do you have an idea when you will make it down? Now you have to allow time to switch links out!!!!! I may even have a Lunsford Tee for you! :ror::ror:8)
If you pm me with your cell # Marcia will send you directions. ;-)

That's awesome, I'd love to test them out. I think I can swap them out lickety split.

Let me just get this out of the way though, Whats the main point of the titanium links? Mainly strength? or is it weight too? Pardon my ignorance.

It is the weight, and the titanium slides on the rocks better than must other materials. "thumbsup"

Titanium links are actually lighter than the stock Steel pieces.

Benefits of Titanium over steel links is the sliding over rocks, the strength, and titanium is a memory metal which means even if you get it in a bad bind to bend slightly it's going to return to shape, not remain bent.
