update with the GCM stuff, Mip Drive shaft, mostly all mocked up now. I need to move forward with the interior so I can figure out the cage anchor points. I had to swap the links front to rear and now they are longer in the front. I will do a plate for the battery tray to be between the frame rails. I might drop the hoops in the rear and get rid of my VP axles raisers, that will save me 1.5cm height on the hoops with the same travel.

I bit the bullet for the proper look and I just placed an order at RC4WD for 6 Out Cropper tires in 1.9 size. aka Nitto Mud Grappler. I am still looking for the right set of wheels, nothing resemble the Ebay1 wheels so far... I'd like a rim that is wider than the Axial beadlock with a nice outward offset. Gonna keep looking.

Body's coming along nicely with the JK front grill and new fenders. I think you're going to need to switch to a three link and panhard setup in the front. Four link and CMS doesn't work so well, as I've recently learned. The front steering geometry changes too much based on suspension compression with that setup. GCM offers a panhard setup that works with those axles, but I've got Curries and am stuck waiting for VP's CMS / Panhard or... ?

it took me a full day to get the steering setup right and it does not sway when compressed. It works really well as is for me. You can notice the end link choice as well as the shim that put the link in the proper angle and alignments.

*Here are my findings as far as running the GCM CMS with 4 links and minimal steering change when compression occurs.

-I run the servo horn on the driver side
-Run the steering knuckle attachment on passenger side and shim it up so the angle is not steep. (test for full up and down and balance it so it is minimal for both position.
-Run an angle rod end on the knuckle side of the link
-Run a straight end on the servo end. (I shaved the back of it to not interfere with the differential.)

That setup keep my link as aligned to the lower steering link as possible and the fact that its as long as possible reduce the extreme position steer problems. Getting the shim right for your travel is the key to not have the link pull on the knucle and cause bad steering.

hope this helps.

Thanks for the info - all that makes sense. I'll give it a shot on my own SCX and let you know how it goes. I would prefer to stick with 4 link on the front and there is no out of the box part, or combo of parts, for a panhard with my setup (GCM servo mount, VP currie axle).

I get maybe 2~3 degree steer at the very edge of compression only when both side are compressed. if only 1 side is compressed, it is neglectable. Even when steer occurs, and as little as it might be, it is not in a linear manner; only steer happen at the last 10% of the compressed and depressed cycles. And as mentionned, only when both sides are acting in the same manner.

here is the breakdown of the exact spec I am running.

upper steering link:

86mm eye to eye
52mm sleeve
upper traxxas rod end & metal ball joint
lower Axial "Bend down" rod end & metal ball joint
Steering knuckle shim is made of brake line and is 5mm
Longer M3 bolt to account for the Shim
bolted at 22mm offset from the horn
The horn is offset 1 notch toward driver side

Looks good. I'll see if I can manage something similar. I'm using the GCM two servo mount, with the steering closer to the spur gear. This leaves the front mounting position for a TZI Beefy winch, whenever it shows up. Might make the angles tougher to get right.

I got started on the cage today, using solid steel stock 1/4 and 3/16. got the 2 main tubes bent as well as 3 of the cross tubes, the winshield bottom and top and the B pillar top. I plan on using the 3/16 rods for the smaller center tubes and the collectors behind the seats. Pics to come.

The Axial stock servo was getting very sloppy... one trip to the hobby shop then... BAM!

Also went to buy more 1/4 cold roll steel rod, some 1/8 plate and square tubing... oh and some leather glove in prevision of brazing. I am learning so much on this build.

If anyone can help, I am looking for these wheels in 1.9 size! The closest I saw where some 2.2 G-made air wheels...

Well, It looks like I will be having some custom wheels done sometime soon By Locked up RC. If anyone need some Slab, let me know and I can add it to my batch when I order. I'm going with SLW compatible for futur flexibility.

We could go wider for the wheels but it will increase the price by a proportional amount. If we use a base "difuser" wheel and add the ATX Slab details, the price will be on par with the 1.9 price on his website plus a one time fee of 75$ for the batch. (The difuser wheels core are a deep dish already.) As far as offset, it will be standard Locked up RC offset but that is why I want to go SLW instead of 8L. You can mate any offset you want to your wheels.

Batch are in number of 16 wheels.

I plan on ordering plain metal color wheels so everyone can paint their center their desired colors if wanted.
