Default 3Racing Crawler Ex (EX Real)

Looks like I might be one of the first to get one

I've always been a fan of 3Racing's stuff since my days of running mini-z - and pretty much all my RC (except my Tamiya-spc TCS cars) have some kind of 3Racing parts on them

Either way, going to try and do a build thread - please excuse my failures as this is the first time I've ever tried this

I will say this, it's gonna be slow for a while and I still need to get a body for it......

Enough BS, on to some pics.

Some generic box shots

Some shots of inside. Everything is neatly bagged (still not sold on the rims, though)

3Racing was even smart/kind/thoughtful enough to include servo extension wires for the steering and shifting servos

Also, take note of the long wires on the included motor

A couple shots of the manual and addendum for servo setup(s)

Sadly, that's it for now - need to go create some shares on my laptop for tax files lol

I didn't realize it didn't come with a body. No biggie. I agree with you about the wheels, but again no biggie.

That was very cool of them to include the servo extensions.

I'm disappointed about the body as well. But I can find about 8,000 D90 bodies on ebay. Sadly, the 3Racing is so damn expensive

Under $200 shipped for a 2-speed roller with a motor is expensive? I have to disagree. We just asked Vaterra for a single-speed slider (no wheels, body, or electronics) with no motor for $200 and were told that "it can't be done".

I bought my USED Scx10 ii slider for $200. The 3Racing is NEW... and 2-speed... AND includes a motor; if the shocks don't leak, that'll be ANOTHER upgrade over the Scx10 ii (2-speed tranny comes to mind first)!

The fact that it doesn't include a body just ensures ppl won't waste money on something bundled that they don't like, plus it gives us the freedom to customize our rigs so everyone's not running the same stupid cookie-cutter lexan lid.

Hey Kaybo, can you snap some more pics of the manual pages? So far they don't have any PDF available for download, and I think a lot of us wanna see what makes this thing tick.

For electronics will you install a wp-1080 and 3s lipo? Any ideas on your servos? Also, what body will you be running? Will you try and remove the gold from the beadlock hardware using EZ-Off oven cleaner, or just buy new silver hardware?
Sorry for all the questions, but I'm living vicariously through you right now. LOLZ

I actually meant the 3Racing D90 body, not this kit

The kit, technically, was $203 shipped direct from 3Racing

Heheheh

Check out 3Racing's site, the manual is available for download there. I downloaded mine about a week before I ordered the kit

Planning on getting a D90. Speedo definitely be the HW1080 - not sure about servos at the moment

Haven't thought about the hardware yet mine just get some Locked up Scale stuff

Ah... now I found it:
http://www.3racing.hk/manuals/KIT-EX-REAL_Manual.pdf
I must've been thinking about the Hobao DC-1 crawler kit.

It took 3Racing until the release date to post the manual. It wasn't up there for a bit

Here's a $14 pvc body if you're looking for cheap:

Shipping's like $2.

Thanks, but definitely going with a D90. Probably the Xtra speed version, since that's the cheaper of the lot

Vaterra could do a $200 slider if they wanted to. They just aren't making enough profit off of it. Chinese manufacturers seem to be content with lower profit margins.

Well, I'm a kid in a candy store. I WAS going to wait for Step1, but I caved and finished the chassis rail assembly.

2 things I noticed:

1) there were only 4 different size screws in this bag, even though the manual shows 3x6,3x8,3x8,3x12. I'm guessing it was a running change (or first run goof ups) but I have the 3x6, the 3x10ish flatheads, one 3xsomething (supposedly 3x12), and a boatload of 3x10 screws - 3x8s missing all together. Not a big deal, in the long run.

2) if you aren't a fan of putting a little oil/grease on the threads, BECOME ONE!! Every screw is a machine screw (while I like that and only use machine screws on my other stuff) and is a complete ball-buster trying to screw them damn things into the plastic.

The plastics look like a fiber reinforced, not necessarily a "carbon" part (like on a high-end touring car) but definitely stiffer then Axial plastics

Here's the finished shot and one compared to my son's deadbolt.

Here's the left side assembly as part "a" of step 1. Bag1 contains everything for step1, in case you were interested.

Shock mounts are interchangeable with no different one for from or rear. Make sure you can count correctly (lol) because with all the holes in the rails they give you, you need to count empty spaces

Step "b" other side of the chassis rail. After you put on the front servo mount and shock towers, they get you to add the skid plate and the rear chassis braces

Aside from realizing I needed oil on the screw threads (and missing 3x8 screws), no issues with the entire step 1

And that's step 1 directions are easy to follow, assuming you can count

Once the cramp in my hand goes away, onto the fun part, the transmission

Good looking kit so far. All those holes are a builder's dream. The plastic looks high quality. It'll be interesting to see how the stiffer plastic holds up to tumbles out on the trails.

So, since I can't seem to wait. I started on Bag2/Step2

Here's a shot of the oddball spur gear and the motor spacer. The nice thing about the spacer, you don't have to guess on gear mesh. Just find the numbers that match the teeth on your pinion and you're in business
