Default Eritex Inc's HRD 3.1 setup and tip thread

Well, I had a written instruction sheet but figured a picture tutorial would be better.

First off, you will need a couple items to install the HRD 3.1 properly...

1. Metric Allen wrench set.

2. A good quality grease (I prefer Valvoline SynPower Synthetic Grease).

3. Light duty thread lock.

4. Axial AX10 Transmission.

Step 1.
Open the package and lay everything out that will be needed...

Step 2.
Insert shifter on shift rod. The shifter rod can be polished with a fine grit sand paper and some metal polish. This will improve how smoothly the dig shifts.

Step 3.
Put a small amount of thread lock on 1 of the 3x.5mm set screws.

Step 4.
Install set screw loosely in the Dig/transmission mounting.

Step 5.
Next, insert shift rod and and snug down the set screw. The set screw only needs to be slightly tightened, over tightening can result in stripped threads.

Step 6.
Locate Dig back plate, transmission out drive, the 5x10mm bearing, and the 5x8mm bushing.

And install.

Step 7.
Now the fun part, getting dirty.

Grease Dig case,

Shifter,

Backplate,

Hex,

Shifter rod,

Hex out drive,

And shift collar,

Step 8.
Install collar on the hex.

Step 9.
Install hex and collar into greased back plate.

Step 10.
Install back plate assemble into dig case.

Step 11.
Place shifter into top of case over collar.

Step 12.
Place Dig/trans mount on the assembly and loosely install the 25mm screws.

Step 13.
Install 2 3x.5mm set screws into the trans out drive with a little thread lock on the stock AX10 transmission.

Step 14.
Take the 35mm screw and install 3 washers on it. Also, take the 30mm screw and install 1 washer.

Then insert them through the dig/trans plate.

Step 15.
Install on the stock transmission loosely. Over tighten now will cause binding later.

Step 16.

Build the shifter linkage and install it with the 3x.5 by 10mm screw.

This gets the unit assembled correctly and on the trans. Next post will show some Video of the break in and set up.

I hope this helps,

Thanks,

Ah! I like Gerame! I was wondering what the washers were for. I'll have to install them tomorrow. I look forward to the break in vid. I used SilGlyde grease for mine. Not sure if it was too thick as it made shifting much stiffer. So I unassembled, cleaned everything and re-assembled. It shifts nice but I may try thinner grease similar to what you've used.

Thanks
Mike

Can't wait to run one

I will have to pick up some decent grease. Something tells me the Tamiya white lithium grease isn't the perfect stuff

Hey Gerame,

I like your design and have been waiting to see if Scott (gunnar) likes it, and/or can break it. You know he will will try his hardest to annihilate it

What I wanted to know is

1. can you set up a rear wheel neutral (free wheel) position or just 4x4 and front drive rear lock?

2. Do you think there will be any issue with dirt/dust etc.. getting in through the top and causing binding or excessive wear?

Thanks, Chris

I have been running mine for about 6 weeks (and three comps) and when I took mine apart Saturday to check it, the wear was basically non-existent. So far the opening in the top has not been an issue.

I'm not gonna break it. I'm sure it will work just fine.

Not trying to destroy it huh? Then what's that on the right?:-P

And the battery you are using to feed it

I know you will not intentionally try to destroy it but damage just seems to follow you around lurking and waiting for a chance to strike

I am just kidding around Scott no offense intended. But I do think some of these vendors should start having you be a tester.

Now quit screwing around and get back to your build

1. Yes

2. I have not had any issues with either. A simple dust cover can be made, I will toss a small write-up on one in this thread.

any plans on selling just parts for the dig? I'd like to use one of your housings and use my brusier tranny gears from my home made dig unit. I'd need the dig housing and front and rear plates. ( basically no guts, just the housing)

I can't wait to get mine...

From what I can tell....this unit would bolt up to the opposite side (front side) of the trans too right?

I smell what you're cookin!

Maybe have to grind off a leg to make up for the space the motor plate occupies?

I don't think so, the spur gear is in the way.

Just got mine tonight and looking at the 1 bushing, it looked real familiar.....so I dug into the depths of my toolbox and found one of the bearings from a TLT tranny, that's been rolling around in there for 6 years Perfect match!!!

Nah...the plate would still be on the opposite side of the trans.

Well, I know that :-P

I was talking about using it with a mirrored trans.

No problem with full throttle shifts here.

I'm running a 35t motor on 7 cells.
