Default Creepy's Eclipse Build

Build time is in limited supply for me lately, but I thought I'd share a bit of my Eclipse build as I go.

Just waiting on my Eritex HRD and a couple of other small items.

I really dig this chassis, but not zippy'd panels, so I had my buddy Monkeybiz braze on some RCP tabs...

Back from powder coat, black of course...

Some Axial HD optional gearing...

Front 36/14 installed...

And the rear 43/13...

Sullivan Dry Ice for the Axial CV's...

A dab of silicone to retain the CV sleeve...

RCP knuckles...

Buttoned up; low CG plate, 3Racing tri-link mount, straight axle and a TCS aluminum Boomerang...

I rough cut the panels tonight as well, not sure what color to go with though.

Stay tuned...

Very nice and clean start. I should try the overdrive for my front as well. Won't you be using the hood panel? I saw there are no tabs in that part. Hope you find more build time so we can see more!

I realy like that chassis and have been waiting for more builds to pop-up to see how others go with it. The pannel tabs are nice touch but what about the hood area?

why do you want the front axle to spin faster than the rear?

Thank you, and it's simply a matter of preference that I'm not running the hood panel. I debated over it, but ultimately decided that with the snub nose I liked the look...kind of a Rock Racer feel without the hood, and by adding the rear window panels.

I'm very happy with the tabs as well...he did a killer job!

I was all good on a droop set up, but after seeing your Eclipse build I'm debating on going sprung with a set of the short Traxxas Big Bores ;)

Yeah, as soon as I saw the chassis I knew I wanted to add body panel tabs. I did the zippy thing with a Warthog and never liked it. Much cleaner this way, and I just like the look without the hood panel

Best answer I can give is to check out the thread:

I had heard that using the overdrive front and underdrive rear was a little too much difference. They were recommending one or the other but not both. I will be interested to hear what you think of the setup.

Nice build man, the tabs are a nice mod

Yeah, I'm not sure if the UD gearing will stay in or not. I continue to read up on them, and I think I may revert back to the stock HD gearing in the rear.

I did notice that the OD gears up front are silky smooth...I mean ridiculously smooth...it's nice

The UD is a bit tighter and not quite as free, which makes sense since the gearing is taller and what it's purpose is. We'll see what happens.

I appreciate the comments Harley, thank you.

i haven't tried either one yet, still waiting on the high speeds to show up for the front but here is a qoute from the thread linked above:

"Our testing has shown that choosing either all one gear ratio, or running a combination of the stock in combination with one of these nets the best results. We tried the high speed/low ratio combo and found that it caused issues when in binds sometimes. The low speed set would stutter trying to catch up to the high speed gears."

Seems like it's not a good idea.

I recently read that Axial info as well. I'll be switching back to the stock HD gearing in the rear. If I wasn't running a dig, I'd probably try it though.

I've been a bit ill for the past few days so I haven't touched the Eclipse, but I'm hoping to get back to it very soon...I'm anxious to finish it up ;)

Default Eritex Dig

I had some time to wrench tonight, so I cleaned out the tranny and re-greased it with some Rocksmith Gear Jelly, and also added a couple of much needed updates.

An East End Machining HD motor mount plate...

And an always true Kimbrough spur...

Assembled and installed the Eritex HRD dig as well...fit and finish is absolutely superb

The goods...

A little quality time with Mother...

Chucked the shift pin in the Dremel at 6K and hit it with some 280 grit and then the Mothers...

Polished up the rest of the HRD components as well...

Replaced the transmission outdrive bushing with a Traxxas 5x8x2.5 (#5114) sealed bearing...

A nice anchor for everything...

Bolted up to the tranny with the servo mount, and locked down to the sweet East End Machining triangulated skid...

Replaced the supplied cap head hardware with button heads; cleans it up a bit...

Real estate for the electronics will be tight in the Eclipse...

More to come...

you may have just convinced me to give the dig a shot...

I may wait to see how yours pans out though.
