| The 5:12 sportsmen
Let me start out by explaining the name of my rig 5:12 is garde of climbing in the Yosemite scale based upon the degree of how vertical and technical a climb or route as it's referred to by climbers. That being said lets get on to the pictures This is going to be another one of my DiY chassis:thumbup: I have around 10hrs into what you see so far with design and build. I've been digging all these sucker punch chassis I have been reading build threads for I decided to build my version of it. Which is ultra low profile. Only2 inches tall:thumbup: Although it's not as sexy as 5th dimensions I think it looks damn good if I do say so myself. Tomorrow's task I will be fabricating side plates and the skid plate! Im not sure as to what direction I'd like to go with the skid my last chassis had an ultra narrow skid and I might do the same for this one. As it's pictured the skid will be 5.5cm wide which offers more room for working on it than im use to but on the other hand a narrow skid is much lighter and easily fits between gaps. So im torn but tomorrow will tell all. Stay tuned and happy crawling! Sent from my SPH-L900 using Tapatalk 2 Last edited by chris.martell; 09-05-2013 at 08:00 AM. |

They say imitation is the sincerest form of flattery, so I'm all for it I like how it turned out quite a lot. It looks very similar, but at the same time, very industrial compared to how organic the production versions are. Keep up the good work. |

If it works fantastic. I'll take credit for it If it works poorly, it was due to your poor translation of my design |

While it looks good, I can't see how it's that much cheaper to make. Travis has pretty much nailed the 2.2S market with the cheapest chassis available basically. I do like to see people however hand craft if you will, their own things. I'll be looking forward to how it performs once you've got it all buttoned up.

| I didn't get much done as I wanted today but hey I always have tomorrow! Still not sure as to how wide I want to make the skid so I'll ponder on it for the rest of the evening. Sent from my SPH-L900 using Tapatalk 2 |

With your chassis height and the design of the brace, you need to fit the whole tranny in between the chassis plate. so I would say at least 70mm wide. Or you can redesign the brace so it goes around the spur (or use smaller 32P spur). |

sweet build. clearance for your chosen motor is critical but it looks like you've considered that. you may find you don't need both upper bridge supports, perhaps just the motor side. a bit of chassis flex can be a good thing too. Nice work Chris. I'm excited to bury this new chassis next time we meet!! Seriously, it looks really slick. If you were trying to make a SuckerPunch chassis, having never seen one in real life, never touched one, and had absolutely no dimensions......then great job. If you were just building a chassis using common knowledge about suspension geometry, two axles you can't change, a transmission you can't change, and a tendency towards a certain look....then great job. Anyone that fabs their own stuff, fabs stuff they've seen before along with original ideas. None of us invented the RC crawler..... |

I was going for this idea Merc! I have no intentions on a direct copy of the the Sucker Punch this is why I have no problem calling mine the Drop Kick. It's kinda like a distant cousin have similar traits but there not twins. My rigs are built not bought! |

Fabricating a skid out of 3/8 uhmw is harder than one might think every cut is critical and needs to be square and precise. My first attempt was a failure lost my line in the aftermath. Tomorrow's atempt will be with a jig saw and I'm going to use MRCrackheads method.:banghead: My rigs are built not bought! |

UHMW will be hard to use since it is so slick. Clamping it is near impossible. Bolting it down would be best.
