| Ar60 uneven gear mesh
Started my axles the other night. Front no issues, rear I noticed a slight amount of in one spot. It does spin by hand, but 1/4 of the way around I can feel the teeth engaging. I marked my ring gear and its always the same spot. I did try a spare factory Axial carrier and new gasket with no change. Anything I should be concerned with or just run it and break it in? Im going to be running an 8th scale system anyhow so Im not concerned with overheating a small can motor. Once again its only enough where i can feel it when roling the pinion gear by hand. Thanks Pete |

Both my axles had the same issue you are describing using the axial housings and LURC FI Spools. I did 3 rebuilds and added shims. After all this i still couldn't get it to be butter smooth so i kept them like that. I think my Bomber is noisy from that little binding but it's been running fine on 3s and a 21T brushed motor. I think my plastic axle housings are warped and the only cure will be aluminium housings. Sent from my Nexus 6 using Tapatalk |

The tolerances are rarely perfect all the way 'round... Run 'em in, it'll get better. |

I chucked up the pinion shafts in a drill, ran them for a while in both directions... That way, if it is really bad you can sense it and let off the trigger, and open them up and re-shim if needed. Better than taking apart everything after running it as built. |

Could be a bent axle putting pressure on the diff. Chuck them up in a drill lightly and watch them out of the housing. Or roll them across glass to look for wobble.

New assembly kit, no shafts in yet, more likely uneven run out on the ring gear it self since i changed indexed the ring gear and then changed carriers to a new spare I had in the parts bin.

Most likly it would only damage the ring and pinion any ways. I would still run them unless it's bad enough to cause enough resistance to heat up the motor esc. Since the fix sounds like a new ring and pinion any ways.

Oh the ring gear screws into the locker you could sand down the back side of the ring gear that's tight. I would put a micrometer on it first to check though.

Mine was the same way. Its now nice a smooth thanx to my castle 1410 3800kv motor. Every axial axle I've built has a spot where it binds while rotating the axle shafts. |
