on the way home from alberta yesterday i got to thinking that i want a scale tuber but i dont have the money to buy a honcho kit and build that up.... so i got to thinking about trying my hand at making an aluminum body of a 1979 Ford F150.. here is the style i'll be after >http://www.cardomain.com/ride/219551...aysville-ky-us. so i'd build the tuber with little tabs so i can mount the panels, then build the molds for the body panels out of wood and smooth them out with bondo. the body style looks fairly easy to make. i'd build a tuber similiar style as this one from Metal Masher > old comp truck turned scale truck as it looks like the easiest one i've seen so far... i've been reading/watching Metal Masher's threads on how he makes his panels and stuff. also forgot to add that i will use the honcho parts. should be cool when its done though. the 2 hardest parts will be building the tube chassis and making the molds for the body panels also thinking i might make it out of 3/16" solid rod instead of 1/4". just looked at the weather and its supposed to be above 0*C all week. finally should be able to get some shit done. | |

im thinking about using the 1/4" rod and making the chassis simple to keep weight down, considering i have roughly 11feet of 1/4" rod. also here's another website that i will be getting some ideas from > http://pirate4x4.com/forum/showthread.php?t=855113 |

so i've been drawing and reading like mad about tubers and stuff... finally got a passenger side of the truck box drawn on a piece of cardboard. going to tweak the drawing a little bit then cut it out flip it over and trace it for the driver's side.i'll get some pics up soon.

i will post some pics today. i got both bedsides done and got the passenger door pretty much drawn out on paper, then im going to trace it on cardboard and cut it out. well i guess pay the damn taxes and if there was any money left over from the purchase of my winch keep it for paying you back for my part of the taxes. if not then let me know how much the taxes are and next time we get together i will shoot you some money. |

ya sometimes i've been thinking about how long to make my chassis. im trying to get it somewhat in proportion. sketched out a 17" chassis, so the way i measured it would be 7" bedsides, 5" doors and 5" fenders. but after thinking about it and seeing it on cardboard it might be out of proportion so i sketched out a 16" chassis and that would give me my 7" bedsides, 4" doors and 5" fenders. which drawn out on cardboard looks a little better to me. seems like a nice sunny day to be outside building shit instead of inside hovering over the computer keyboard.. wanna start bending some rod today. keep the battery, steering servo up front. might put the receiver in the back if i can. hoping on tuesday if the roads are good my aunt wants to go to vernon and stop by lester's so i can pick up some tires. |

started on the chassis today. got one bottom "rail" done took me a while to figure out how to get my bends with just a vise and a hammer. had to get my dad to show me cause i couldnt figure it out but now i got it.. i cut the pieces at 17" to allow some shrinkage because of the bends, didnt shrink as much as i thought so once the other side is done i will trim them to length. i'll get the other "rail" piece done tomorrow and get some pics. dad was working on my racing mower he got the wiring done and tossed the belt on took it for its first test ride since started building it in october 2009. it was an "all show no go" type of test ride lots of noise but no power was burning the belt off.. so played with the gearing but didnt have a belt that fit. |
