Default Harley's Axial JK Rubicon

I've been excited to get this since I saw the release. I think this is the second release in a row from Axial that will really bring a lot of new people into the hobby. The Wraith has exploded onto the scene and I think this little refresh will be a big hit.

Now, there is no way I'm leaving mine stock for long! So I'll get into my plans.

Initial thoughts on the STOCK kit.

A large amount of us have already owned SCX10's before. It has been an incredibly popular base for thousands of trucks. For those that haven't though, it is a truck I would suggest to anyone. The realistic steel C-channel frame and proven axles have proven to be a solid combo for 3+ years. While most of the stuff underneath the body will be a surprise to nobody, Axial has updated enough to make this truck stand out to me.

Obviously the biggest change is the body. Yes it's just a body. However, it's a Jeep, and it's already fitted with licensed Poison Spyder products! I've owned a Proline JK body before but it doesn't come close to the look of this body and cage combo. The hard plastic fender flares are a great touch as well. These look just like the tube fenders used on the real JK's. The licensed bumpers are detailed and the swing out rear carrier is nice and sturdy on first inspection. The front bumper is sticking way out in front, but with a couple screws it is easily tucked in closer to the body for a much better approach. The new tires are the best yet from Axial, and even the RTR comes with the sticky versions now! The height is much taller than the old 1.9's used on Axial trucks.

All of this brings me to my biggest complement about this truck. The scale. In the past the scale of the SCX's hasn't been perfect IMO. The Dingo used wider flares that looked out of proportion to the body and width. The Honcho covered the tires but had a bloated look to the body. This Jeep has nailed the proportions perfectly. The body is the appropriate width, with appropriate width flares. The tire to track width ratio is MUCH better than we have seen in the past. It just LOOKS RIGHT.

Now after all that... I can't wait to start changing it to make it my own! It's my favorite part of crawling.

I shouldn't have opened this thread. You're just going to make me buy one with your build, haha. Can't wait to see the final outcome of this.

At least you could make a fancy gif that brings the rig into focus so we know what kind of car it is.

I will say, the Harley image looks good.

Harley, your drive train selection is a lot of the parts I was thinking about for mine. Have you ever used that brushless motor before? Now I just gotta save for that killer radio, won't need battery's anymore!

I spent last night tearing the body apart and tracing the body panels to make templates for the new wrap. All that is left to do now is finish the art work and have Freq E Skinz print it up.

I will say that I am impressed with this body set, the hard plastic tail lights, the mirrors, the cage, and ESPECIALLY the fender flares. Everything just has a nice fit and finish.

Something I had noticed was that the bumper was pushed too far forward and the body was too high in the front. A couple screws later I had things adjusted and fit a little better.

This needs some inner fenders soon! It will really help the look if you can't see right through the wheel wells.

i agree man it would look alot better,, nice fix on the bumper,, i think inner wheel wells should come standard on these scalers, everyone puts them in and everyone drives in water at some point...

Are the tail lights solid/opaque or do they have some transparency to them? I've been after a nice set of Jeep tails for a while now, but surprisingly there aren't many options out there.
