Made a rear bumper tonight. Debating weither or not to use the swing out tire carrier. I've done all I can do without welding. Last edited by rckjeep; 03-21-2015 at 07:16 PM. |

Installed a Castle BEC today. It fixed all my throttle cutoff issues. My motor was getting hot with the 20t pinion so I dropped down to a 18t. Hopefully that'll help. I think now I can run on 3s.

I recently took the jeep out to the Mecca of crawl spots, The Bean! I have been running fully customized rigs for so long and the lighter weight of this rig and extra wheelbase has had a negative effect on my driving. One issue is the CI foams up front are shifting inward and rubbing on my tie rod. Now I am using VP Zero Ackerman knuckles which place the steering arm straight out which leaves little to no room for tire clearance. I modded my wheels to run wider VP hubs and standard width hexes but because of the foams moving around its still not enough room. I've decided I'm going to cut down the steering arms and drill and tap new holes and run a bolt on steering arm with a little angle to them so I can tone down the floppy steering. Any one have a tip on how to keep the foams from sliding on the rim? |

I decided I don't like the longer wheelbase. I recently switched it back to the G6 body and 12" WB. Now to shorten my rear cromoly links and replace the alloy ones. Then make a set of appropriate length sliders and narrow the rear bumper.

Here's the tire to tie rod clearance with VP Zero Ackerman knuckles and wide AX10 hexes. Unmodified knuckle Here's the modified VP knuckles with home brew steering arms Here's the new clearance with SCX10 4mm hexes Much better clearance and doesn't seem to have lost much steering |

Ya I was tired of having the unresponsive steering as well as only one set of tires and wheels that cleared(sort of). This way I can switch between any tire & wheel combo and steering is much better.

I recently bought the VP knuckles and drag link and was not happy with the clearance. The guy I bought them from didn't tell me they are designed to work with VP wheels and hubs. I wouldn't have bought them otherwise. I refuse to spend $200 on wheels for a toy car. I wish I had fabrication skills like yours 'cause now I have $100 dollars worth of parts That are worthless to me. I like your project.

I'm working on a rear bumper and sliders using some 22g steel and my harbor freight sheet metal brake.

how do you like the new rock sliders vs stock? do they still get hung up like the stock plastic ones or do they help being so tightly fit to the body?

Solid mounted sliders work much better and if you can get them to fit the body better its a plus. Since I get bored easily I picked up a Proline Jeep Comanche Body. I've also started silver soldering to make some parts for the new lid. Bolt on Sliders Bolt on rear bumper, you can also see the SSD-RC axle housings will scale hardware. Front bumper is up next |

Diggin that rear bumper brother! I also like your solution to the terrible angle of the vp steering arms. Someone needs to produce those for folks that can't fab them. |

The knuckles seem to work well. I have two more sets to modify still. I ordered up some more tubing to make a front bumper. Wish I had a blast cabinet to clean off the silver solder residue.
