I was able to meet up with Chino63 and media blast my bumpers and sliders. Not to mention he inspected my solder joints. Now to decide on what color to paint them. I'm thinking gun metal grey. I'm going to try baking the parts once painted as well, I've heard it helps with durability. Anyone have any experience with that?

Bought FI spools and during installation found a cracked carrier bearing. That's a new one. Working on new wheels and foams. Then a way keep the body from moving so much, it keeps popping out over the sliders. Total pita

Well the Comanche looked awesome but the overall size was too big the trails I run. So I picked up a Deadbolt body on eBay and have to say I'm really liking it. I love the fine metal flake in the green paint. The sliders I built for the Comanche fit perfect and I was able to use the SSD front bumper I had on the G6. I swapped the SCX shocks for some 4" HPI shocks that will stop in the same position compressed but offer more down travel. I've got a few tweaks to make still but I think I'm going to stick with this one. Last edited by rckjeep; 04-07-2016 at 02:55 AM. |

They make foam adhesive body reinforcers that will take up space and help keep your body still. I put mine on the inside.

Take a look at the homebrew chassis from nerby on rcc. It's been performing well for me.

The Comanche bumpers are for sale in the classifieds if anyone is interested PM me. To gain some tire clearance I'm running 4" HPI shocks of course that increased the rear driveshaft angle which in turn caused some serious binding. So I disassembled the tranny and axles to find what it is. I found nothing. Did a little research and found I had improperly assembled my driveshafts. They were not all clocked correctly. I've got that all sorted out. Now I'm waiting for a Scalefab Pro Comp front bumper and some HD axial ring & pinion gear sets. Next up will be SSD alloy diff covers and brass tubes. I also picked up some Axial 1.9 black beadlock wheels and some Locked Up RC steel beadlock rings. I've surrounded them in Pit Bull Rock Beasts (4.5" size) They fit the body very well just need to either limit up travel a bit or trim some more of the wheel wells. I'll get some pics up once it's back together. |

Finally got the Knight Customs grill installed. Also the HD Axial steel gear sets installed. I just need the SSD diff covers and axle tubes to complete the axles. My Scaler Fab Pro Comp bumper should be soon, hopefully. Then I will build a rear bumper and she should be done.

Just scored a Toyzuki motor mount from the For Sale section from another OG RCC member! More to do to the rig in the near future.

Well I've got the Toyzuki mount installed. I've also swapped out the SSD-RC D60 axle housings back to the factory Axial ones. Now all the bearings snap in tight. I'm using a Hand Bros 3 link axle mount and a Traxxas turnbuckle for an upper link. I found they work best because you can dial in the perfect caster and drive shaft angle. I'm running 4" HPI shocks with some sag. The drive shaft clears the motor by less than 1mm at full compression. With both shocks compressed, the axle hits the motor plate and limits up travel but I'm not worried about that at all really. My rig isn't fast at all so I doubt it'll ever happen in the field. Now to mount electronic and the battery. I am having some play in the bore of the Toyzuki mount. I've ordered up some new bearings to see if that's the issue. Hopefully it'll fix it. I PM'd Toyzuki and he graciously offered to replace the mount. What a guy! Can't wait to test the rig out! Along with the bearings, I've also got a set of MIP drive shafts coming. So far the rig has HD ring & pinions, FI Spools and Axial CVD's, with the addition of the MIPs this should limit breakage. Oops, forgot I will also be making my own axle tubes in the next weeks to complete the "Bullet Proofing" I've been under taking. Once it's all done.....I'm heading to the BEAN!! |
