Default DT's WranglAR - Just another Jeep

I have had this chassis, transmission, and motor sitting around for a few years now. I have wanted to do an SCX frame on AR60's ever since I saw Bender's Wroncho. Also Wraith based rigs on 2.2's seem to be the go to for guys around here. I don't want to be the hold up on the trail, so if you can't beat 'em, join 'em.

To not insult to the Wroncho guys I will call this rig the WranglAR, since it's just another Jeep Rubi build.

The starting point:

So I put together a little RPP order to get this project rolling.

The WranglAR parts list:

SCX Frame
Robinson Geared Transmission
Brood 30T HHK-GR in Epic oval brush can
Castle BEC
Holmes Hobbies BRXL

Thanks Bill I have to wait for the parts to show up... Current delivery date is next Monday. Believe me, I would love to be wrenching on it this week. I'll probably have to take a rain check on the 7th, after buying all these parts I won't be able to afford the travel costs

A few more items have been added to the parts list. This morning I ordered a Waterproof BR-XL because I know I will need something more robust then an FXR when the HEAT of summer is kicking down here. VP transmission case, my current case has 2 stripped holes and has been in 4 different rigs over the last 6 years, it's time. And finally a VP motor mount\Gear Guard. My current plate has so much material ground off of it for squeezing it in 2.2s and it is just beat up after 6 years of use and abuse.

This will handle hot temps much better than an FXR, plus I can run 6s if I feel like frying a motor for some extreme fun before motor death, and had a far superior drag brake

Black was on back order, so I went with Silver

I'll get my actual pics up when things start arriving, but felt my thread was lacking photos due to everything in the mail, so I added some from the vendors I ordered from

I'll be going with the spare parts bin battery mount. I found an ax\scx tray that I had never used in an old junk box, and pulled the servo mounts and screw retainers off the parts tree from my Yeti kit.

I just need to track down my bag of Velcro straps and it should hold this zippy 5000 mah 3s pack nicely.

And that about does it until parts show up later this week and next week.

Well, I wasn't totally sold on that solution. I wanted some sort of hard stop at the bottom of the plate in the event of Velcro strap failure. How a Velcro strap that is protected inside the chassis would fail? I don't know, but if it can be broken, I will find a way.

So I dug a little more in the junk box and found some m3x12 studs, screwed them into some traxxas rod ends, then used them to mount the plate to the servo mounts. This will only allow the battery to slide out the sides now, forcing it's way through the body in the event of Velcro failure due to ham fisted driving!

I'll be using the Rubi Unlimited. I'm not sure the Velcro body mounts will stay. They are from the Newbright JK body I originally had on this chassis a few years ago.

I forgot an important item on initial order day, Beef tubes! Just ordered 2 sets so both axles get some beef tube lovin'.

In a month or so when my wallet has recovered from this all, I will start thinking about a lighting solution, but the budget is shot for now. I may have some old drift car lights I can put in the buckets for now though. I'll have to search the spares box in the garage.

Yes, that was a Newbright body. Thanks, I had a lot of work into that rig. If you want to check it out, you can read the build here: DT's SCX Jeep JK

Hi, My name is DickyT and I'm an addict...

I have not received any of the parts to start the build yet, but blew the next few weeks lunch money at RPP today

HeyOK 4A Relay Winch Controller
KMS Winches K3 Servo Winch
SSD Scale Hawse Fairlead
VP Poison Spyder JK LED light bar mount
VP Rigid 6" LED light bar
VP Rigid 1" LED light bar Black

I still need to swing by my LHS and get some paint and wire to run motor leads.

Thanks Robert, I was going to rear mount it and run a crazy tube to the front, but I like that MUCH better! More weight over the front axle too! Time to dig for that 1/8"X1" alu bar I know I have somewhere, or pick up some more.

The mailman brought a little bit of this rig today.

And I picked this up from Scaler Fab at today's scale comp.
