Has my ESC died?

after some very little splash fun last Sunday the holmes ESC fails again

later that day I opened the ESC plastic box and notice some humidity so I dry it using warm air

today I made some test but the ESC just do not arm

the green light that indicates "armed" is not there

instead of that, I got some beeps and then the yellow light, the servo works well, the BEC is properly wired, but if I pull the throttle or reverse the motor runs but after a second the ESC fails and the green and yellow led constantly blinks. Esc calibrating is not possible. ESC configuration works using the castle b.link + castle link app.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ur0Q...ature=youtu.be

I already send an email to holmes customer service. to check if they have any advice

to be honest, I don't want to invest more on this ESC, I don't want to pay the expensive international shipping or the fix fee if repair is possible

bad luck

RC CRAWLING IS OVER FOR NOW

back to mi loved kraton and MT410
see you in a few months, let's wait for parts

so after the fail of my Holmes ESC sent an email to holmes customer service explaining the failure and asking if there is any way to solve the problem

some days later they reply saying that something may wrong with the board, apparently, the damage was internal and not fixable

somedays later they asked for my address saying that they are sourcing a replacement

I thought they were asking my address to provide some dealer alternatives

It was a big surprise when I found the notification that a replacement is the way

To be honest I never expect that, I live in Mexico were RC hobby is not very popular, maybe because it is expensive but mostly because it impossible to find parts at local hobby stores.

during my years on this hobby, I had placed hundreds of orders at different stores that offer international shipping most of the time I found that they don't support to international customers. (except amain hobbies, kudos to amain hobbies)

this is the first time that I get a replacement and full support to my inquires

I really appreciate that

shout out and big tanks to holmes hobbies

I take off the proline shocks already installed on this truggy to mount it on my new element Sendero

so let's install new shocks
Traxxas TRX-4 PTFE Coated Aluminum GTS Shocks

I read some good reviews about the trx4 shocks, also the black color match with my Truggy paint.

shocks are pre-assembled out of the box but springs are not included, you also have to fill the shock with oil

Is always a good idea to apply some green slime to the o rings and internal spacers

finally, let's mount the springs, this is a heavy rig (10 pounds) so it will try using hard springs

front
Shock Springs (0.61 Rate - Blue)
back
Shock Spring (0.54 Rate - Green)

I am also planning to mount a mini warn winch but that is material for another post

Yesterday night I finished the winch installation and light bar reposition so now I can say that this Truggy project is finally completed. Well, I have to change the Universal front Axle Shafts and Rear Axle Shafts because they are already bent, I noticed a wobble on wheels but that count maintenance.

Maybe some upgrades and mods are needed to improve the cab the interior but I think it is ok for now, I have to recognize that my building and painting skills are not the best to replicate those awesome realistic interiors builds out there

First thing I notice after winch installation is that despite I shortened some wires I have to accommodate several electronics in a tight space

ESC
BEC
SERVO
RECEIVER
LIGHT CONTROLLER
WINCH CONTROLLER
DEAD MAN SWITCH
HEADLIGHTS
RUNNING LIGHTS
REAR LIGHT BAR
BRAKE LIGHT
VOLTAGE METER

I don't know how some building masters can hide the wiring on their rigs, respect!

some pics

this if the wiring mess

this is the wiring after management

I brazed a couple of tabs to mount the light bar on the back

this is the final result

I notice some wobble on tires, apparently, it is because the axle shafts are bent

so let's change that parts using these

Incision SCX10 II VDI Universals (2)
Vanquish Products SCX10 II Chromoly Rear Axle Shafts (2)

I hope it can solve the problem

Actually this rig is just laying in the shelf, the HeyOK Performance The Lighting Controller fails so I had to send it back to Al Jackson in Canada for repair

He kindly provides the assistance to repair the controller but now I have to wais for delivery

Now that this rig is finally completed I realize that "this is not a real Truggy"

now the Northwest Scaler Designs chassis in on my mind to build a real Truggy

inspiration for my 2020-2021 project

Great looking build and detailed build thread!

Somehow I missed your build, but glad I found it now!

It’s too bad some of your pics got taken out by Tinypic, but the pics that did survive look great!

Great looking rig and it looks like it was a performer!

Hi, and thanks for your words, it means a lot coming from an experienced builder like you. I really like how you customize your rigs, truly inspiring. respect!

I forgot to save the photos from tinypic, my mistake I never attend the last call due to closeup

This rig is heavy but performs very well even better than my enduro or my recently made custom Unimog.

by the way, I have the same 3d printer than yours, I am planning to print a ford ranger body to replicate my own truck, I will create a thread about that later.

I re-buid this rig
I just have the transmission left from the original scx10ii kit

new mods:

SSD RC SCX10 II Diamond Pro Axle Case
NWSD “SCATTER GUN” V2 CHASSIS FOR AXIAL SCX10/10.2
new custom front and rear bumpers
custom 3d printed skid plates and body mounts
new Superstition Machine Works wheels and Pro-Line BFGoodrich Krawler Tires

and I am currently working on the body who is pending to be painted

I am going to use to use the RC4WD mojave body and the corresponding interior

by the way interior is done

more updates soon
