Harley,

I have a HH 16t CM Pro Team Edition and a HH TM BR-XL ESC in the mail, being shipped to me (as I type)! Wooo Hoooo!!!!!

HH recommends a 16t pinion or smaller, if running a 3s LiPo on the CM motor.

What gearing would you recommend for this set-up? I will probably run 3s LiPo on it.

Also, do you think I would be ok with 48p, or should I go with 32p gears?

Is the shaft on that CM Pro Team Edition 1/8"???

Thanks for your help, I appreciate it!

Gearing is covered at the beginning of the thread. Start with that, your setup is very common.

Yes, 1/8" shaft.

No idea there. I haven't ran a FOFF type setup. I would look in that forum section.

has anyone ever tried a 3800kv castle 4 pole motor? would it be close to the tekin 3300kv 4 pole that everyone recommends.

Not even close. Castles motors are all sensorless and therefore they are poor choices.

This is all covered in the first few posts.

What is a better choice a 13.5T-3,500kv or a 13.5-4,000kv or a 17.5T 3,000kv motor. Is this thought correct..Why wouldnt i go with the 4,000kv 13.5T motor over the 3,500kv 13.5T motor, their both the same turn, it seems the higher kv would be more efficient??

The turns should technically be the same but it differs by manufacturer. Lower KV will be easier on your system, less heat.

What is better? Not really a correct answer to that.

HH recommends a 16t pinion if your running 3 cell batts.
That's 5:1 ratio.
So if your gonna use 32p gears you need to go
56/11 or you could burn up your motor according to
HH.
If your going 3s of cOurse

That is best for motor life. I ran 4:1 for many many hours due to performance. This will be much harder on the motor and you need to monitor temps, but I assume that with any setup I run. You can burn up a motor with any setup, some just faster then others.

Drive smart and take care of your truck and you'll be fine. No matter what, don't complain when you burn up your own stuff

ok just read through almost all of the pages of this thread and havent found what im looking for. (might have missed it) im gonna keep my stock esc for now but want a more reliable motor. the rig will be 90% trail bashing and maybe alittle crawling. will a 35t brood or HH play nice with the stock esc and be fast enough for me on 3s 2200 lipo? i know i have to ad a ccbec (in the mail). thanx chad

aslo gonna go 32p so 54/16 u suggest?

Wow Great information here Harley. I wanted to share what I have used in my wraith with great success. Forever seeking the insane speed and crawling at the same time. I thought lets try a Tekin RX8 and T8 2050kv motor. After coming up with a simple tranny relocation plate to fit it in and redrilling mounting holes in the motor plate. I used a 54t spur from traxxas and a 17t pinion. I know your not going to beleive it but the esc and motor combo crawls as smooth as my XR10 with 55's and with a really high C battery (150c max amps) will hit approx 35-40 MPH. All on a 3s lipo but hey the combo can take upto 6s....

Had a second really high set of gears sitting around thought I would throw them in and see what happens. Was able to get nitro monster truck speed half throttle was about 25-30 mph then pin it and it would do a 15 foot 30 mph cat walk. Crawled like a 35t brushed motor...........

I'm relatively new to the rc scene. And from what I've heard, the Novak isn't really that reliable. What do you recommend otherwise?

I don't really care for crawling, only high speed, jumping ect.

Was looking around the 13.5 turn brushless, with a 54 tooth spur gear.

Am I on the right track there?
Cheers

Yeah, that's a fairly common setup. If you only want speed then a 10.5 may be a better choice. It's not a great platform for speed though, so you'll have to watch out.

to anyone running VXL's/ similar brushless systems, what's your gearing? I'm looking for speed(faster then stock for sure) on 4400mah 40c 3's, but also don't want to run it too hot like i've been doing with brushed motors. i'll be switching between 5.5's and much smaller 2.2 paddles for some dune climbing and can switch the pinions accordingly.

Harley,
I just bought my second Wraith and me and my boys are loving them, I have 25t brood motors, 3s, tekin fxr, 1350mah 30c batteries, I have been monitoring motor temp closely, keeping it under 150, finally turned my nine year old loose, he ran 4 packs through, motor got to 190, smoked it. Stock gearing. I went to 17/87 now, hopefully temps will stay down, but the speed was awesome with stock gearing. For reliability, would you recommend going to 2s? I also have a ridgecrest on order and need to find a reliable set up that still has fun factor for my sons.

Gear low gear low gear low. It's the only way to keep faster motors alive without going brushless.
