OK. I went to the LHS today and picked up some parts. I now have 80, 84, 87 tooth spurs. And 14, 16, 18, 20, 23 tooth pinions. A 12t traxxas ,
35t integy, 17t fireball, 55t novak, and the stock 20t. So I would need to stay around the 5.25 range right? That's 84/16 but what would be the best motor to put with that combo? For good crawling and a bit of speed. I'm thinking the 17t but I want to know what you guys think. If there's some other combo I can make that will do me better by all means let me know.

I highly doubt the 17t would last. The 12t Traxxas motor really isn't a 12t as far as I understand it. They label their stuff a little different. You can try the Traxxas first but other than that I see the 35 as your only other reliable option. the 35 really won't get you much speed though.

OK Harley..I'm going with the 35t, stock esc,and a 6 cell. If you were to run it what would be the ideal ratio to hit for a good mix? This is the last question....I think....lol

You're the man Harley.... I must admit the lower topend bothered me for all of about 2 minutes. It's smooth as silk from a dead stop to starting forward.Loads of control on the rocks and still has that bit of punch for the occasional needed wheel speed. While testing this setup I figured out that for me this is going to be a trail/crawler primary rig. I Don't need to add another basher or all around rig to my stable. Thanks for all your help and thanks for answering all my questions.

I'd look at the first page. There is guidance there. I don't recommend the 10.5 usually though so you'll have to just play around with it. 5:1 or so is probably a good place to start.

hi all,
ok, i might as well ask a newbe question as i have been blowing big cash and just hoping that my no need parts box doesnt get bigger. i prefer to not ask questions, and just reserch everything, but i thought that it might be a good idea to bounce afew questions on yous before i make my next big buy. i already have all the rock crawlers i need (2 xr10's, 1 ax10) so im building this wraith to be a stupid fast rock racer beater, to take out when i'm pissed off. i started following harlys thread when he was making his fast but lost interest once he went with a different motor. i'm going to be running the trexxas stampede vxl brushless with esc, axial as3 reciver for now, but being that this is going to be stupid fast, and i'm not very happy with the as3 servo anyway i was thinking of going with a different servo, like for hi speed. for a tranny i was planning on going with the 2 speed tranny, i located my battery position to the front, and all of the electronics to the back. i also went with the caotic crawlers upper and lower links and front tie rods thus far. i am currently trying to figure out what gearing i should go with that are in the axles. thanks in advance for any input, Dave

Do you have a recomendation for the 56/14 Spur gear and Pinion Brand? My LHS sold me Traxxis gears and said they would work. The 3 bolt pattern doesn't line up. I could file them, but is there a better option? Brian

I used Kimbrough spurs in the past. Pinion doesn't matter.

If the motor isn't a sensored motor then it will be worthless for anything but speed.

Avoid it. Novak's units are out of date.

Get a Mamba max pro and a 13.5 from Tekin.

It's not. But it's really not a must. The sensor is the most important part. For a high power 4-pole, the Tekin 3300 Pro4 is the best choice.

How would a 17T double wound running on the AE-2 work? Would it do ok or would it be a waste?
