| Scale Wraith KOH style Here is my project of a little more scale looking Wraith. I ordered some parts which I needed for the transformation: . RC4WD Ballistic axles . RC4WD 1.55 Void beadlocks . RC4WD 1.55 Interco Irok . RC4WD solid links . Axial SCX10 plastic rod ends . RC4WD dual spring shocks . RC4WD high servo mount . aluminum panels, roof and hood . aluminum floor panels front and rear . MadDogRC led light bar . RC4WD Tough Armor Stubby front bumper . RC4WD winch ….. I had the 1.55 Void wheels and Iroks ready laying around not using them for any of my other scalers. So I thought they might fit and I believe they do. Originally I planned to use the Robbe 2-speed gearbox which I had test fitted in the bottom plate but I will go back to the stock Wraith gearbox. So I ordered another aluminum bottom plate. The front ultimate scale shocks in front are just temporare and will be replaced along with the rear shocks by longer 90 or 100mm dual spring shocks. I will decide which shocks I will use when they arrived. The battery will be relocated to the front. For that purpose I installed aluminum floor panels. Speed controller will also stay under the hood. Only receiver and and other electronic switches will be located in the rear bed. I also ordered a dinky rear bed which I might cut and install. Originally I planned to use a RC4WD led light bar, which I installed. But then my son asked for it and so I switched to a 4” light bar from MadDogRC. The other light bar now works on the roof of my sons Hilux J (he is now 6 ½ years old and running his truck since one year now) I hope I can give more update soon. Looks perfect with the narrower axles. To me 1.9's on stock Wraith axles look weird because they're so wide.

That's gotta be the 1st time I've ever liked Iroks on a truck. Lookin' good. On second thought.. Who knew 1.5's would EVER look right on a Wraith? You've done it by golly. Last edited by Jus; 11-19-2012 at 09:46 AM. |

Got the longer dual spring shocks (100mm) in the post today and immediately got them mounted. That is the ride hight I wanted. Cool! Flexing is also very acceptable. Last edited by ThomasR; 11-21-2012 at 12:54 PM. |

Articulation and ride height look perfect. Any plans for videos once it's ready? I would love to see it in action. |

Thanks for your comments. I will be on a Scale Run on 1.December and hope the Wraith will be finished until then. So I can post cool pictures and hopefully a video too. In the mean time, while I am waiting for some more parts to arrive, I played around with the shocks. I figured out that even 110mm dual spring shocks might fit well. I had some RC4WD King Off-Road scale shocks in the parts box which I originally supposed they are far to long (110mm) and to large in general. So I gave it a try and hey, they look just right. Downside is, they are too bouncy because they are not oil filled shocks and not really usable for a KOH racerl. But when I opened them I found that they have working shims inside. So they are ready to be filled up with damper oil!! Woho!! So I searched for my damper oil box and start thinking and testing... startet with very soft Axial oil which was too soft. Went through Tamiya #400 medium, #600 hard and #700 stiff. Everytime unfill and refill all 4 shocks with oil and testing them on the car. Now I have perfect combination. #600 oil for rear and #700 oil for front shocks. I did not expect the shocks can handle the two hardest damper oil. I thought they would be much too stiff. Ride hight is still nice for a KOH truck and articulation has improved extremely. Also the King Off-Road scale shocks works much better then the standard dual spring shocks because they are oil filled and have now real damping funktion which is a great improvement for RC4WD shocks. normal ride hight fully uncompressed Last edited by ThomasR; 11-24-2012 at 03:25 PM. |

Awesome build. Keep the pics coming. By the way, do you have a part number for that front bumper? Chris |

Postman brought some new parts. Aluminum shock mounts and front frame stiffeners. Alot of additional weight will be added to the Wraith, so it can't be wrong to give the chasis more stiffness. Also I played around with another wheel/tire combination. Actually just other wheels where tested. I ordered 1.7 Mickey Thompson Classic Beadlock from RC4WD. Wow! These are of the finest beadlock wheels I have ever seen. So true scale! The MT logo and the beadlock ring with all the tiny screws are so realistic - great! With 1.55 Void With 1.7 MT Classic Next I will modify and rearrange cockpit and make space for new higlight which came into my mind the other day. I have already ordered new parts. I will update when they are here. |

Thanks! Btw, how to change the thread name? KOT is not correct, must be KOH or KOTH. Anyone knows?

Recently I have done some other minor changes. Front and rear shock towers and front cross member has changed to aluminum type. Aluminum skid will follow soon. Then I removed the steering servo because it is not needed anymore. Where the servo was placed is now free space which I will use for other parts. I will put in an aditional aluminum plate there. I might use the space for the speedo, or else... free space in the Wraith is quite rare anyway. Yesterday we have had holy night and so the Christchild brought me a very nice present Items from company Leimbach which makes finest hydraulic parts for Excavators, cranes etc. I got micro hydraulic pump with brushless motor, micro zylinder, micro switch-valve, 3mm and 2mm tubes, micro servo and oil. In short terms... I got a hydraulic steering system for my Wraith Just like the real KOH racers. Here a comparison shot to a 80mm Ultimate Scale Shock from RC4WD. I hope I'll find some time the next days to start the hydraulic compartment and installation of the steering zylinder. |
