| Best way to vent wheels?
Is there a science to venting the wheels to eliminate the flat spots on my swampers? Thinking about just drilling one 1/8" hole between the spokes towards the inside of each wheel? Just the drop in temp from 70* inside to 28* outside, sucks the air out of the tires, making several flat spots that don't go away while wheel'n. It sits on a stand, so no flat spots from sitting. I have heard of guys venting the tires, but I don't see the benefit? We do run in the water, so maybe a couple holes would be better to allow drainage/evaporation and possibly stiffer foams?

| Re: Best way to vent wheels? That's what I did with my XR beadlocks on Wraith, then tune your foams, I'm running two stage home-made. Some stiffer 2.2 buggy rear foams and the stock Wraith foams cut to make thinner outer layer. If they get wet, take them apart and let them dry out or they will turn nasty and the foams will get wasted.

The benefit to venting in the tire is to allow water drainage so your tires don't become to heavy and to allow your foams to dry so they won't wear easily. I found that burning a tiny hole with a solder pen creates a hole but also mends the sides of the hole so it doesn't tear easily!

The guys at Crawler Innovations recommend venting the tires especially if you use closed cell foam. They use a leather punch...who knew, eh?? I like the soldering iron melt trick idea...so the tires are melted and less likely to rip. I have a fear of ripping tires if I vent the actual rubber but that is part of my OCD I guess. Scared to ruin a tire..DOH!! |

For venting tires do you want one single hole or multiple?
