Well until I get my UGC chassis, I decided to have the body painted by my buddies girl. I asked her to do some sweet sharpie art. Then they were gonna spray Spaztix chrome behind it. Well in the process of spraying it paint, it literally lifted the sharpie right off the body. whooopssss, minor miscalculation. Either way, this is the way she sits as of right now.

Do it. Saves the servo, and servo horn plus you don't get hung up. One of the best mods so far, period.

It'll make your servo work harder and get hotter.

How long have you been running it that way. Would like to know, as I have the same servo.I dont want to do it if the servo will fail. Harvo knows what he is talking about on this, so give me more input on this. Want to know how it is working for you.

Just switched it last night. Functionality wise it works perfect. My servo ran hot as.can be since I got the truck. And based on what I know about physics, servo horn length would effect how the servo runs much more then the drag link.

Well I have the racing edge horn, so I think I might be good if I do this mod.

The drag link length itself wont affect the amount of work needed by the servo, but the angle of the drag link will. Being at that steep of an angle the servo has to push harder to get it started moving than if it was parallel to the tie rod/axle. A longer servo horn will increase throw, a longer arm on the knuckle will help with the amount of work the servo has to do by increasing the leverage on the knuckle making it easier to steer.

A longer servo horn decrease the amount of available torque produced by the servo. Most of us that are installing a longer servo horn are doing so in order to get the most throw out of our steering setups. With the VP knuckles you have to have a longer horn to get the most out of the steering. The only other way to get the full amount is to shorten the arm on the knuckle, but that somewhat defeats the purpose of the VP knuckles. By shortening the provided arm you will make it harder on the servo...just like it was stock. Read this for more info:

I did know all that you have provided. As far as more throw, no thanks. I feel that if I need to turn tighter, just use dig. I want to get the horn out of the way. I have flipped the servo 180*, seems to work. My only concern is the angle he has on the drag link itself, as you said.

I'd agree with these two guys ^ ... you can get the horn out of the way by flipping the servo and it will be alot more efficient . Not much will hit the horn when its that close to the tire.

You haven't driven at Miramar FL. The damn shells and spikes in the coquina rock are always getting caught up in my servo horn, with the servo flipped.

It does stay cool though

Project BlackHawk
-------------------------------

This started off with me wanting to go bodiless and has turned into a mass spending of money.

After getting it together to it's current state, I've partially decided I might need 3.5" shocks. Stock shocks with crazyorigin rod end mod is just to much height, I think. I'm gonna borrow and set and see how it sits with 3.5"s.

Parts list as seen in these pictures:
-Hawk Bodiless Topper
-Axial Stage 2 Carbon Fiber Chassis Kit
-Axial 30* Upper Links.
-Crawler Innovations Low Clearance Front Links
-T1E High Clearance Rear Links

Parts on backorder:
-Axial Carbon Fiber Electronics Plate
-Axial Carbon Fiber Battery Tray
-Axial Black and Purple Springs
-Vanquish Motor Plates
-Vanquish DHII's

There's more stuff to list, but I'll wait for the electronics side to list those off.

Sorry for crappy cellphone pictures!

You just like carbon fiber.......

I can't wait to weigh it in once the rest of the parts come in. Was 5.9 RTR before the tear down.

EDIT:

Oh yeah, thanks for all of your help DickyT. Without your help I don't think I would have made half of the right choices!
