| Underground Crawlers XR-10 Chassis I wanted to wait until I had something a bit more definitive before posting, but this rev is looking pretty promising, and I figured I should stop hijacking DicktY's thread with updates. I was hoping to ship these out to Team Drivers today, but luckily Richard found a small change that was easy to implement. I'm actually machining these as I write this. Here are some shots of the chassis' that are out right now: Here are some renders of the chassis I am machining today. A few changes you'll be able to spot, others are more subtle. I do plan to also offer it in white: I'd like to thank Richard for all his hard work in testing, modifying and reporting back everything he has found. This project would not be where it is today without his help. I'll update this with more info as it becomes available. Thanks for looking. . |

Looks good Juan. Looks like you added a row of holes to the upper part and removed a row from the lower section from your renderings and add a support in the lower center of the upper chassis. Can't wait to see these hit the rocks. |

Just got home....12 hour day, but I got a lot done. RevB Skids, lower and upper plates are finished. Started out turning big blocks into small ones. This is from 7 prototype skids.....just to give you an idea of what happens when I'm making 40 Fastback skids. The tool changes required for this skid will require them to be made on the machining center, but this small run can be made on the knee mill. The cutout on the inside is to save some unnecessary weight, but it's also the exact same size as the relays of a Punk dig. Quote:
So stock weighs in at 202g or 7.125oz. My chassis with hardware, weighs in at 122g or 4.30oz. The only thing I'm missing right now is the shock mounts. They are 6061 aluminum, and according to Solidworks will weigh .416oz for the pair, so my total will be 4.716oz. Keep in mind that you will also have to add in body panels (Fastback panels for example are under an ounce). So you are looking at just under an ounce and a half of savings. Electronics tray is also in the works, so that will also add some weight. This chassis will also lose a bit too once I machine out the lowers, and drill all the holes for the skid. Once everything is final, I'll post the total weight ready to run. Last edited by C*H*U*D; 11-14-2010 at 09:26 AM. | |
