Default BWD Dub Mantis Prototype - by highlucks

I was lucky enough to receive one of three prototypes of this chassis. After the long wait it finally arrived yesterday. So I set about putting it together a.s.a.p. I had a spare XR10 at home so I used the axles and shocks from that as donor parts.

All I can say about the machine work on this new chassis is just wow. Don has crafted another work of art for our ever evolving hobby. Attention to detail including slotted side plates for smooth skid transition and as much material removed as possible to make this thing light but still strong enough to take a beating.

At the moment it is just a roller but should be up and running by the week end.

Parts and pictures.

Brood 45T LE motors
Dual FXR's (yet to be fitted)
Hitec 7950th
All Vp Goodies except. toppers and upper link mounts
Axial Machined Gears
Rowdy Racing flat battery mount
Front VP SLW V4 1" with shaved and clipped boss claws
Rear VP SLW V4 0.7" with clipped boss claws
Front axle in the Rear (more than likely going to change back to a rear)
Bigbores, with CO shock caps, Jeepindoug Spring cups, Mini T orange springs and 35WT oil.

Hard to see but that is 4.75" of rear ground clearance.

WOW. I really want one.

Very nice build. What is the advantage you find to the shaved boss claws?

I have not had any rock time on the shaved BC's yet. I hope to see how they go on the week end. There are a few guys in here that have been trying them. Del Monte and others I can not remember.

Damn you Highlucks, I wanted the first Mantis build thread. My prototype has been waiting for me at home for a week and I'm stuck working out of town until tomorrow.

Looks good so far, almost the same as mine will be except I went with V6 SLWs in 1.35 with 6" CI boss claws. Also Holmes electronics and the rest of the VP goodies. Can't wait to see it in action....

I thought you may have been the Calgary Tester.

Thanks to every one else for your comments. I really look forward to getting this thing onto the rocks.

I'll admit this one looks good. Don's got another winner in hand. Are you gonna run the Tadpole when that one comes out too? You must have a stock pile for chassis yo.
