Ended up getting my wheels in last night. So I chopped em down, clearanced the fronts for the knuckle weight, and sat her on her feet for the first time. I also mounted the skid, knuckle weights, and body.

I was a little surprised at the end weight. Perhaps the tires weighed more than I thought. The foams are a tad wet, but I rung em out pretty good. But it is still within my goal I suppose. I was hoping for about 3 lbs 12 oz- 3 lbs 14 oz without additional weight. This is with the knuckle weight.

All I have left to do is glue the tires, and solder in the electronics. Body sits a bit high to me. So when I paint a new one up, I might butcher one in a way that it sits much lower. Probably something cool with the shocks coming through the hood or something

So, what is that? 3lb 15.6oz? With how much weight?

Thats the thing I have never understood about XR's, the weight is always all over the place.

I have seen some XRs that are 3lb 8oz or so. Going off that, you have another 8oz or so worth of weight to pull. Get to work!

No doubt! I have no clue where the weight comes from...

Drilled gears, CF chassis, plastic glue wheels, shaved and trimmed BC's, AL links, AL ball ends, AL hardware, SCX10 shocks, Micro sidewinders......

Not sure where the crap I am going to pull 8oz from...

What does 1 tire/wheel weigh?

What does one of your lower links weigh?

Those motors are standard? 6.5oz?

Are your uppers solid rod? If so, you may be able to lose some there with 1/8 TI or AL tube.

What about lighter weight rod ends? Don't the rpm ends have extra material to strengthen them?

I havent weighed the wheels/tires yet. Pry do that this evening. I know the front wheels are 16g, and the rears are 17g.

I havent weighed the lowers yet either. I will try to do that tonight

Uppers are solid rod. But they have to be since they have to be bent to clear some stuff. With the way I drive, tubing wont last long.

I am not sure if the rod ends are heavy or not. I know that plastic takes a lot to lose weight. I would only lose 1-2g by switching out rod ends. Totally not worth it.

I have a few things up my sleeves.

More gear milling
7075 1 piece rear inner axle with a new gear
Mill the motor plates
1 piece side plates once I make sure I like the setup.

Im sure all that will yield an OZ or 2

Its that rats nest under the body that weighs so much! I had my electronics done by one bad ass dude(thanks btw) an my rig weighs close to urs. All that extra work should be worth its weight.. Its got to be the motors, its the only thing left?

Motors are probably one major contributor. But I sill dont get how Jake(Del Monte) is still so light with regular motors aswell.

If I wasnt saving my coin for my 3RZ swap on my Toyota DD truck, I would throw down the coin on the cool holmes 500 pullers. But at $250 with no dealer discount.... ugh!!!

So I finished her up tonight while the misses was out with her friends.

First off, some weights some of you were asking for.

Front uppers and lowers weighed 7g each
Rear uppers and lowers weighed 8g each.
1 tire weighed 83g
Front wheels/tires/foams weighed 122g. Rears were 123g. Lost a few when I let the foams dry out for a couple hours next to the heater/

So I wanted to see what the weight difference would be between the electronics installed and just sitting on the scale.

Before:

After:

Electronics soldered in:

I was pretty happy that I was able to lose well over an ounce between the electronics, mounting the body and trimming it some, and letting the tires dry out some. She bench tested fine. I just need to set up the ol Nomadio tomorrow, and maybe run a pack or 2 through her to see how she does before Sundays comp. I will do my best to get some pics of her on the rocks.

I also really like the way the body looks with the hood cut up, and the shocks/tower coming through. Especially since it makes the body sit about 1.5" lower

That looks crazy with the body like that So the shocks don't hit the body at all when flexing? The stance is sick!

122-123g for that combo seems pretty heavy? My Rovers on my bead locks are 123g each. I would think glue on wheels should be quite a bit less? I know Stubs said when he glued on his Rovers to Dlux wheels that he was 2.5oz lighter than my setup.

You could switch out those uppers for something more lightweight. My 1/8" TI uppers are 8g for the pair. AL tube would net about the same weight.

So, just by switching out motors, lighter wheel setup and upper links, you could lose ballpark 5oz.
